Following on from the Agroforestry video we made @TapoNothFarm, we now look more deeply into their whole farm design, way of life, thoughts on regenerative agriculture, and their beautiful homestead. From keeping goats for making cheese and using the manure for the market garden, to using chickens as forest birds to help with managing and developing forest gardens, Tap o' Noth Farm have created a truly magical permaculture paradise in Scotland.

Hi guys, im from Vietnam. We have a home forest farden where i grow different forest big wood trees, about 1,5 hecta. Around the house we grow vegies, herbs, fruit trees and keep some chickens, mostly for self consumption. We ve been doing this for 8 years. I hope to pass down the garden to my children, and hope they will appreciate it. Cheers from Vietnam!!

back in the 70s there was a tv show called The Good Life with Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal. about a couple who decides to throw out the modern world and basically turn their suburban home into a farm. all sorts of shenanigans ensue and if you have ever attempted farming of any sort you are bound to relate on more than a dozen subjects. it was a comedy back then, but it's becoming a reality for more and more people and honestly what little i know about Briers i have a feeling he's laughing at the irony of it all. it's a good show, and on youtube. look it up! might even give you some ideas. I took up farming 15 years ago but was already exposed to it by my grandparents when i was really young. i just never had my own patch of land to do anything. we have all the usual farm animals including a couple of cows and their calf. this year we added honey bees and i reinstated my geese. i used to have a small gaggle of them but sold them. missed them terribly after five or six years...so i bought five goslings back in march. they're not honking yet but they do strut around like royalty and i love it... probably going to get rid of the turkeys. i have officially decided i am not a fan. and i want to cut back on chickens and do more with quail and pigeons. it IS a good life though. at this moment i have a fridge full of milk from my goats and cow, i have fresh eggs, and home grown pork. i could absolutely make homemade scotch eggs and they ACTUALLY be homemade because it all came from my homefarm. i have so much milk but only one person outside my family is willing to come get it. i end up feeding the extra to my chickens or pigs 🙄 i would much rather give it to friends. but they've all been trained to reject it. like i said, been doing this 15 years. 15 years of raw milk, raising my kids on it, no one has died. only thrived. I would love to see more people do this on whatever spot of land they can. if you have access to dirt you should be able to grow something to eat. people grow house plants in the city, college kids used to grow weed in their closets.... you can certainly grow tomatoes in your apartment if you really wanted to!! and a goat takes up as much room as a dog - depending on the breed, large or small. and they will happily landscape for you for free, AND they make clean fertilizer AND milk which also makes cheese. and they don't bark or bite people. ducks are a red meat and more sustainable than beef. their eggs are higher on the alkaline scale which is great if you're on a cancer diet. pigeons and rabbits kept families alive during famines(pigeons also feed themselves and breed rapidly) A lot of the plastic in the ocean was once wrapped around food.... but if you grow it yourself, or if you go to a local farmer and pick it yourself, there is no need for all that trash. that alone should motivate people.

This is so comforting seeing how many people are creating these spaces. Where I live in Ohio our community is strongly against even a small community garden. Instead, they recently sprayed RoundUp over several hundred feet of streamside because it was bordered by "messy" weeds (Queen Anne's Lace) instead of neatly mowed grass and sprayed the trees to "get rid of birds" 😓

Wow that sounds nightmarish. But things can change. Where I live, people start rethinking many of these "It has to be neatly cut grass" notions. The local government often let's roadsides and other unused space flower (which looks lovely) and I could even convince my grandma to agree on only mowing her lawn and small meadow once a year, so all the wildflowers can bloom longer (under the condition that I do all the mowing and raking of the hay).

Hey Y'all, What a fantastic video. To see folks creating, working and living a life of permaculture and agroforestry is so inspiring. The animals are a combination of coworker commodity. They are living their best life of health and nutrition as well as fresh air and sunshine. When humans understand the nature of an animal and use the animal to work for them it is imperative to know when the job is complete and stop them before they continue until they cause damage. The damage being the fault of the human for not stopping them as animal are animals after all. Blessing on you both, your family, and your farm. Bye for now

I really like what Rosa said about instead of keeping environmental land the same... As we know land either improves or gets less productive... I think the msg Rosa is sharing about improving land and not leaving it the same is what all environmental gov departments should be thinking about... I mean some land was tropical rainforest and they want to hold it in its less than rainforest capacity.... That imo is wrong... Land should always be improved... For example the amazon jungle was previously a manmade permaculture living entity... Look up terra preta....lets stop this conservation of leaving land the way it is.... Also alot of the animals that were in these areas previously are no longer there to maintain the conservation areas...

You two are so Blessed to have acreage as you do! Question: How much time do you spend with the goats every day? Do you need to milk them every day? How long does that take? Do you make cheese from the milk? What happens when/if the goats eat up all the branches they can get? Do you have a better wooded area, or a de-nuded one? You have four goats, by my count. How many goats do you require per person? Do/can you sell any of the goat milk? Your dog really gets excited when he senses that there are animals to herd! (Which is his function, by his breed.) Great video -- this is where my heart is also, but I now live urban.

Hello! Great videos! Did you decide to move away from duck egg farming? I loved your video a year ago about duck egg farming. We also had khaki campbell’s for egg farming but we could not keep the eagle predators away and kept loosing hens to the eagles. They seemed to know which ducks were hens and preferred them over the drakes. I was hoping you found a way to successfully farm khaki’s.
