Absolutely fabulous. Life was supposed to be like this. Even as a child I wanted his life. My brother and I when we were 8 and 7 ran away from home to go to our family property in oklahoma and live in the woods. We made it 2 miles before a neighbor told our parents they saw us on the hiway. If I'm lying I'm dying. Ironically just a year later we moved up there on that mountain and "camped" for 9 months while our parents built our cabin. In our 50's now we still consider that time the best in our lives. Our father still regrets letting that property go. And life goes on. Thanks for sharing this gem.

@FinalFront Жыл бұрын
@@pipfox7834 Sure just looking at the numbers alone, someone today earns $9/hr and someone working in the 1960s can say "Well I only earned $1.50 an hour!" But its more complicated than that. Both of my grandfathers were able to get good paying factory jobs right out of high school. By the time they were each 25 or 26 years old they had their houses fully paid for on 2 acre lots, no need for high interest 30 year mortgages. They were able to purchase brand new cars without high interest loans, and raise their families of 6 on just the one income. They could afford to take their families on vacation to the beach every summer. Then when they got old & retired they received incredibly good pensions. This was a pretty common way of living for Americans at one point. All that was gone before I was even born. I'm currently doing the exact same job my grandfather did, but each dollar I earn only goes about 20% as far as each dollar he earned back in the 1960s. It was also more common for families to own land. When they died they passed the farm onto their kids, then their kids passed it on, etc. However all it takes is for someone in your family born before you to sell the farm off to some developer so they can move to Florida or some such place, and the family farm is gone forever.

Wrong doing deserves justice and must be punished (just like how a criminal has to pay for the crime they have committed) but God saved us from the eternal punishment of our sins by sending His Son Jesus Christ, fullness of God in flesh, a perfect, sinless sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross and resurrecting, so that we may have everlasting life. It is all finished and now for you to accept the free gift of grace, you must repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ and Bible says that His Blood will cover all of your sins, you will be forgiven, saved from eternal punishment, and be given everlasting life. By faith you will receive the Holy Spirit, become born again, know Jesus personally and He will transform your heart and clean you from the inside out. I live a similar lifestyle as this man. I’m only 64 though. I’m definitely impressed that this man is still getting around at his age. I’m hoping that I’m able to continue my off grid lifestyle until my dying day. I personally feel like an animal in a cage when I go to town. No way I could be happy living in town.

Hey off I've been living off grid for 20 years now. I don't have a stream for power though. I use my solar panels. But I'm doing pretty good. It's nice not owing everybody in the world. I just enjoy the peace and quiet the animals. I cook my food and heat my home with wood, open the windows turn on a fan for my air conditioning. Nice being up in the woods. Enjoy young Feller

Watching your video made me so home sick. I was born and raised in WA state, my family is from and I lived in a tiny town called Toutle. I recognized the area immediately. Love it up there. Al reminds me so much of my Gram who is still over there.

This video makes me feel guilty in such an awesome way. I take so many things for granted, if my phone dies, or my car is low on gas. Truly incredible and very humbling.

I was wondering how old he was, i thought like 65 perhaps being around 20 when starting this, but damn 82! Still so vital Must be the peace and tranquility from living off the grid, outside in nature, it seems really stunning there, a mountain side, fresh spring water, just wow! A true inspiration

My best friend grew up in a hydro off-grid house. Everyone loved going out to his place for sleep-overs. Fast forward to 22-23 years later, he's just out of college, and his parents move into a beautiful new house in town. Then proceed to tell him about how wonderful and convenient life is. He was pretty pissed. Lol

I live in the Sierras and for several years adventured off grid I loved it very rough and always working on wood, laundry, food, burn piles, gardening & the bears & mountain lions were a constant worry, but sure miss it !!! Anyone got a little fixed upper over there🙄🤔😍😁 good times love your set up great world you have perfected🤗

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video about AL and his homestead. I have a friend who reminds me a lot of Al, but he doesn't have a Creek on his 3 acres, so no free power. The ingenuity involved in this is so apparent, and it really does speak volumes about the possibilities and sustainability of off grid life. I gues, though not everyone can live on a creek with hydroelectric potential. The photo album shows his wife. What a lovely couple they are.. wherever she is, they are king and queen of humanity. Still bright and shining star examples of what could and should be. Thank you again for sharing Al and his way of life.

My favourite part of this is simply two people from different generations hanging out and having a good time. We have so many people trying to divide us along whatever lines possible, including age, and it's great to see living proof of how we can connect.

I feel like my blood pressure and stress level went down just watching this and listening to this guy talk. I bet he will live a very long life without all the stress most of us experience and even if he doesnt he will have lived a GOOD life and that is more important than anything. I am miserable, do not like living in a huge city and working myself to death for money to pay bills. I love working but would rather it be cutting wood and just things I need to do to live.

Finally someone who uses a water wheel for power generation. It’s gotta be the simplest, most effective, and long term solution.

His issue is it provides TOO much power. That water wheel could power a half dozen homes continuously.

There are a lot of people, in the states, still not on the grid and it isn't by choice, they would love to have things the rest of us take for granted. I wish more of they could do something like this but water is also a problem for a lot of them. Congratulations on a tool that lasted so long
