It was for the most part built by a solitary neuro surgeon in his free time believe it or not.I was lucky enough to be involved in relation to having drawn up the plans for both the dagger board and box..

How is it that this 58' has a displacement of 5T while a modern carbon Rapido 53' has a displacement of 9T? The Rapiod interior is a cut above, but still, 4T?
@CatamaranZeeSales15 күн бұрын
Do not let "traditional" look fool you. She is light due to the fact that way of how she's built is just as "modern" as today's performance multihulls with a note that La Gioia's core design elements are based on racing tri drawings, while Rapido consists of more compromise and is leaning towards cruising design. Almost every part of La Gioia is structural, even the large portions of interior cabinetry...
@mikemendes75982 ай бұрын
So would you rather have a Rapido 60 at $2M+ (and probably a LOT of plus!) with all the gremlins of a new boat/design, or this for 1/4 the cost? I know which I'd pick! The engine is 42HP, which is stupid. I realize they want to keep weight as low as possible, but that boat will barely motor into a heavy head wind. How do I know? I helped deliver Caliente, a Chris White 44' trimaran, with a feeble 28HP engine. At 25 knots on the nose, it could barely move. Once the wind got above about 30 knots, it was more or less stationary, there's SO much windage from the hulls, nets, rig, etc. "So just sail it". There are times when tacking is imposible or very difficult, and it's important to be able to motor. Anything past about 30* on the nose, I agree - better to sail.

The hull form reminds me od an older Ostar racer like Trimeran dawn but the flared accomodation aft outer beam wings and extensive nets tell you about her other nature. Her original finish was a a really striking idea .... a Woody as the the Americans would say ...that could be restored for a decade or more with a quallity wrap. A magnificent beas and i can see where a certain far eastern maker may have got ideas for their latest Cruisng version of their LS 50' and posibly 60' of their performance trimarans .. Though i would be looking to a sheltered helm given the change in climate conditions since this was conceived based on a racer.

Why the new paint, are they hiding a repair? the varnished cold molded wood was beautiful
@CatamaranZeeSales2 ай бұрын
@@feedurheadhesaid there were absolutely no repairs. it's simple. As much as she was far more attractive in epoxy/wood combination, due to UV it started to detoriate the epoxy color at places and the simplest and the best choice was to have her repainted instead of stripping/grinding down all the layers. And after all it was the owner's choice, it's his "baby" and she still is impressive even with hulls completely in grey

Why are you so slow minded? Are you hiding brain damage?
@IsaMichas-gf6kqАй бұрын
@@CatamaranZeeSales I remember him thinking the exposed wood was something beautiful but probably temporary given the UV issues mentioned above.I remember that conversation. My guess is there are newer transparent solutions now that would do the job of offering UV protection that didn't exist in the late 90s.
