I’ve been “playing” the guitar for I’m ashamed to say how many years. I could make my fingers do what I wanted but never really knew where they were supposed to go or why. Which limited me to only copying what I see rather than actually knowing what I was doing. I have learned so much more watching your videos in so little time. I see how it all fits together. Thanks Paul.

Also remember to follow your ear as you play. Sometimes your fingers won't know where to go, but as you start to explore the fretboard, your ear will.

This is off topic (sorry about this Paul, but I am sure you understand). Turmeric. I have different joint trouble, arthritis being one of the lesser ones (and it is not a lesser evil as you probably know). I have been taking about 3/4 of a teaspoon of ground turmeric in a tea mixture that I drink daily. Now, this is in about 1/2 gallon of tea, but I drink it throughout the day. It has helped tremendously, although it took about 2-3 months before I noticed anything at all, so regular intake is paramount. Just in case this is of interest to you.

I enjoy your approach to teaching and I will be honest I love your accent. This I believe is the most sensible and consistent approach to arpeggios for guitar on the internet. Fingering is natural without excessively large jumps making movements more efficient. I've been studying guitar for (gosh) nigh on 60 years. I'm sometimes frustrated by teachers who don't really have it all worked out themselves. I like your approach and the use of Levels to show how to progress. I admit I've never tackled the problem of playing "up the neck" much before. But I am pretty fluent in position playing so I'm very ripe for this improvement in my skills. Thank You very much Paul.

I know metal and distortion are not his thing, but it seems weird to talk about guitar arpeggios and not mention one of its most widely usages. They are basically everything he said here but with strong emphasis on hammer-ons and pull-offs, plus instead of picking notes individually you need to master a coordinated sweeping up and down in order to get the proper speed.

Best teaching technique. Low key, great examples and not a single "you know" to be heard. I kinda wing my arpeggios by ear and it works, but it tends to go into a rut. Time to start working on mine with some structure and I am using this video as my guide!

So glad I stumbled onto your channel. At two years into guitar, this is just what I need to learn now.. So many things to learn! Wish I had picked up guitar at age 11 instead of 68. Here I go Arpeggio!!!

This is super informative... as a guitarist I followed the path we all take, I spent the first 12 years perfecting the intro to crazy train, once I got that down, I started learning music theory, now at 20 years in, I know what an arpeggio is. The world is unfolding before mine eyes. I'm 100% serious btw.

Dear Paul, this video was so much fun :-) I practiced level 3 for about 5 minutes and got it at medium speed up and down 3 times in a row (just a rule for me to be sure, that I got it memorized). Thank you - your demonstration is an inspiration for me to continue to work on arpeggios. I always wondered what to do, when my teacher said „play arpeggios“ - as I didn’t have an example (like one of these of your video) to repeat and get used to I had no starting point and no inspiration to continue. So - very well done, thanks a lot, Joachim
