BEAUTIFUL Board Game UPGRADES! Train Sets, Marvel United, and Marvel Champions!

I upgrade cardboard chits and coins for every game I can (as long as it's a "keeper"). Way too many to list. Orleans metal coins, or Clans of Caledonia metal coins, are great upgrades for almost any game that has cardboard coins. Fantastic video!

YES! I don’t think I’ve ever skipped out on a resource upgrade for any game when possible 😅 it’s just SO different having cardboard circles vs metal coins or silicon squishy berries hahah it’s literally a world of a difference!

I've come to the conclusion that upgrading the base game is better for me than expansions. I (used to) teach my games to new players very regularly, so I'd only want to teach the base rules to keep things simple. The only expansions I really enjoy more are the "more of the same" type, like the Cosmic Encounter alien packs, or track maps for Downforce. But upgraded parts just make games I already love pop more and others want to play them more, so I get to play them more!

Denis you literally hit the nail on the head with this! I love getting people to want to play a game more-which definitely lets me have more game time as well hahah! So I 100% agree with you on that-upgrading games that you love-so so worth it!

I have poker chips which are an upgrade to any board game with money of any kind! Has changed my gaming experience for the better dramatically. I also have the root resin clearing markers, but in terms of upgrades that’s about it.

Realistic resource tokens/ metal coins for.... Above and Below, Near and Far, Islebound, Anachrony, Antike II, Bargain Quest, Champions of Midgard, City of Iron 2e, Clans of Caledonia, Concordia, Cyclades, Five Tribes, Jamaica, Scythe, Eldritch Horror, Roam, Roll player, Scoville, Tzolk'in, Viticulture and wooden or folded space inserts for like 10-12 games. Also if a game has an expansion I'll probably buy it. Some games (like Cyclades) become their best selves with specific expansions.

YES that’s amazing! I love upgrading resources- and do use some chips from Brass to do something similar! I think the root clearing markers are nice to give that elevated feel to the game!

@sam beautiful titles! I think I definitely don’t consider inserts enough because they save SO much time, especially if a game is full of plastic bags. I’d have to try out Cyclades to see how the expansion plays out-that’s really interesting! I’d even push that point a little further and consider base games that already have expansion slots in place (Aquatica, 5th player slot)

That's how I feel about Spirit Island. Haven't played it, but bought the expansions cuz I know in my soul I'd enjoy it. (And I did) Also, going back and forth on the Everdell complete collection.

NICE! I really want to get into spirit island too but it’s pretty intimidating! And for everdell.... I have all of the latest ones and can definitely say that it’s 100% staying in my collection; it’s a huge hit in our family game nights haha (although I have the original logs that roll everywhere-glad they fixed that in future upgrades)

Unnecessary** lol Anyway, I also tend to just enjoy a base game and don’t go for many expansions. When I play with the expansions I usually don’t love learning the new mechanics or rule changes. So I tend to miss just playing the base. I ordered the upgraded tokens for Warp’s Edge. I’m tempted to get the speckled eggs for Wingspan.

Parks come to mind right away when you mention that because Nightfall definitely added some extra time to learn on top of the base game Oh nice! I’d upgrade tokens anyway too-although I haven’t heard of warp’s edge till now! Those are really popular! I’ve been playing Food Chain Magnate a ton with my brother recently, we enjoy the base game a ton, the expansion does look very attractive to us as well, but the price tag discourages me from getting it. Root is really the only game I have with significant expansions that I wouldn’t imagine the game without.

Ohhh yeah that’s a hard one....some expansions end up being almost the price of the base game itself and it just becomes challenging to figure out whether to buy a new game or add on to the old one
