Good to see your daughter driving the boat. That takes a lot of trust as a parent but will allow your daughter to grow by leaps and bounds.

Thank you Bob, one of my friends was surprised when he had a sleepover at my house and I made a full English breakfast when I was about 9 years old. I believe children are capable of quite a lot if we let them learn in a controlled manner... Thank you for watching & commenting! Chris 👍

Hi Chris, you’re absolutely right to consider your family’s safety and the potential for ‘bad actors’ to interfere with wider plans, without becoming overly obsessed with negative thoughts. The fact that you’re considering and expressing the consequence of your actions is basic good strategy and responsible parenting, especially when you’re travelling across the world, into unknown territories. Enjoy life, but above all Stay safe.

Chris meant to say one of the hardest things these days travelling with solo child, is finding kids to play with. Not like being in camp for 3wks so they make friends. We found all the play centre’s in france very good and looked to be officially certified. Good way to let Emma hang out with kids easily…

It's interesting to see how grown up Emma becomes when she spends lots of time with me and Rossella. Her language in particular becomes very mature. Of course Emma loves playing with other children and when she's playing with her imagination or with her friends, she is still very much a 6-year-old and we agree it can be a challenge when you're on the move. Emma has a well-rounded life through the year, so we are very lucky in that respect. 🙏 Chris :-)

Couple of points i noticed from other channels. Use a plank across your fenders to stop them wearing out in the locks. The canals can be very weedy and block the raw water intake
@SailingBritaly2 күн бұрын
Hi there, completely agree on both points, as confirmed in future videos. Cheers, Chris 👍

Great to see you back, Chris. Things to ponder: 1) Buckets adding 1m to the mooring fee make for expensive buckets. 2) Are small churches for people with little faith? 3) Emma just safety audited her dad. (Keep it up, Emma).
@SailingBritaly3 күн бұрын
😂😂😂 Thank you! 1) 1 euro per metre extra has only been charged in one mooring place so far... The harbour master & his wife paced out our mast to get their full dues in Bruges - rightfully so... Usually we use the length on Britaly's paperwork (10.74 m), which is much more convenient. 2) Matthew 8:26... 3) Emma always keeps me on my toes in numerous ways, and she does not miss a thing! :-)

Loved Coupure when we stayed there too. I think some friends of us were moored on other side behind you in that shot. Hoping to do the trip to Ghent next year. Thanks for posting this.

Looks like a beautiful route to the Med mate. We’re currently in Portugal, 350 miles from Gibraltar and the freshwater route looks most appealing 😅 can you tell us what precautions you’re taking for any Orca you encounter. 😆 I hope your travels restore your faith in humanity a bit. A constantly changing environment is good for that I reckon 🙏 best wishes to you three and thank you for the episode!

Hi Chris. Thanks for the videos on this inland voyage. Interested to know what the draft of your boat is? Cheers
@SailingBritalyКүн бұрын
Hi there, the official draft is 1.65 m. With my tools, the girls' shoes(!), and factoring in sitting lower in fresh water than salt, I consider it to be 1.70 m. Cheers, Chris 👍

Nice film Chris and great trip to grow sea legs.. Whta maps are you using to route plan? 11 foot height the whole way? Would say take no chances with the little one.
@SailingBritaly3 күн бұрын
Hi Richie, I'm going to put something together regarding where we were getting our route planning info from. We used various different online sources and haven't had to buy any paper charts. You'll see what happens regarding depths in future videos, I don't want to ruin them for you... :-) Chris 👍

Beware of using the autopilot - worked very well till we went under a large iron bridge when the boat veered violently towards the bank ….

Are there hours you are legally allowed to be motoring on the canal such as from sun up to sun down?
@SailingBritaly2 күн бұрын
Hi Patrick, yes - the locks close at certain time and navigation at night is prohibited. This slows progress (some locks close at 6pm, despite daylight lasting until 10pm in midsummer), but we have anchored out a few times in some really cool places as a result of getting "stuck" between locks... Cheers, Chris 👍
