Wonderful! The guitar is an endless wonderful puzzle of new sounds if we force ourselves out of mentally looking at it only one way.

It's surprising how easy it is to do this on a piano by holding a key down and sustaining it while sounding the next scale tone. Pianists don't rely on this because it's so simple that it comes across as a cheap gimmick but it stands out on guitar because the unusual fingerings aren't known by most guitarists so it really pops out. Unfortunately it only works in a few sharp keys, but it really nice when used as a special effect. Special effects stop being special if they're used all of the time.

Yes, I guess that's why it sounds so unique on guitar to hear the strings ringing out like that. Glad you're part of our guitar family.

Magic. The fingerings really mess with your head, but once you crack them they sound incredible. Thanks.

Yes, it is quite strange at the beginning breaking your mental habit of viewing the guitar in one position as opposed to two (the one you're playing in and the open position). But once the finger patterns are down it's like butter!

Thanks for sharing this! This might be a good way to get into the cascading harmonics Lenny Breau, Chet and Tommy Emmanuel played so well. Steve, I remember running into you at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society convention a few years ago. Will you attend this year?

Sounds like a dobro or resonator slide as the technical term dobro is actually just a name brand but if you use the name brand name dobro most everyone mainly musician's know what you mean.

Beautiful. Are any of these moveable so i can change keys or not because of the open notes?
@GuitarGathering
@GuitarGathering Ай бұрын
They aren't moveable like something in a position would be because of the open notes. BUT, with some thought you can figure other ones out as long as the pattern you're going for involves notes that open strings could be used. So you could so things in A or in D as well.

@@GuitarGathering👍, Eric Johnson is another with his beautiful Lenny Breau style of Harp Harmonics. Harmonic a string with index finger & pick/thumb, pluck two strings away with 3rd finger. This way EVERYTHING is ringing over. This can be done with open strings or fretted (which still sounds open) Beautiful!
