The concrete building is what's commonly called a "pill box". They're relics of the second world war, built as a defence against invasion. Lots of them still survive on the East coast.

The east coast can be bitterly cold in winter. It is nice you got to see the seal population. It is great they can be seen without disturbing them. I don't think they have any predators where they are. Possibly the occasional Orca.

You can see the grey seals and their pups at a number of spots along the east coast at this time of year. Horsey Gap seems to be the best place to visit, though. Those memories will stay with you until the end of your days. Did you know about the RAF bombing range at Donna Nook which ceases its activities at this time of year to allow the pup birthings?

Cley beach is also a good seal spotting place. Park up and head left along the beach for about a mile and the sals are everywhere. They come up to pup and three can be literally 1000s. We got so close you have to walk around them. Huge things close up especially the bulls.

It was a pity we had some high tides this week and forced the seals further down the coast, there is normally hundreds along that piece of beach but still a great sight though, it’s surprising how quick the bull seals move considering their size. Poppylands is a little gem in the middle of nowhere, it pays to book in advance during the summer months we often pop over when the grandkids visit.

You consistently upload the most beautiful and interesting videos and thank you for that. The small structure is a 'pillbox', constructed during WWII as part of the defences, in case of a German invasion. It must have been rather chilly out there, those easterly winds can be bitterly cold. Great Britain, a rather crowded island, is fortunate to have a wide range of wildlife, that is willing to live alongside us. Some lovely people are reintroducing species which became extinct in previous centuries, such as Osprey, Bustard and Beavers. Take care!

There's a place in Lincolnshire (can't remember the name) that I visited when I was a child - there were literally hundreds of seals, and the public could get within a couple of metres of them. I learnt something in this vlog, I didn't know that we catered for 40% of the worlds' seal pop. - that's probably because of a lack of predators.

Yes the old stone building is a pillbox, one of 28,000 constructed in WWII. You will find them all around the coastline and military facilities. They were manned by lookouts/gunners as part of an early defence system.

That was a fantastic experience for you and somehow you always get the best weather. I am guessing that the seals thrive because there are no natural predators such as sharks, although it does seem that one may have been killed by a Great White in 2012. Shipping is a big danger to them. It is hard to believe that the North Sea was once a land bridge.
