I made myself a putter from a broken shaft I found in a trash can at my local golf course and a scrap of Ipe...I didn't make a video, because I didn't know if it would work well or not. Well, it worked so well that a friend found another broken shaft in the proshop and asked me if I'd build him one...this video is of that putter. I play a lot of golf and these putters actually feel really, really good...I couldn't be more pleased...and, I've got another two orders!

I've never been one for golf but I totally get it and to make your own putter, what an awesome idea! I used to go to a local field as a kid with one ball and a club to just hit it from top to bottom 😂. This is super slick, love the details! Great video Stan, keep em' coming! 👍👍

What a great video! That was a ton of fun to watch. Is there anything you cannot make? I love the club but the paint thinner trick was brilliant. I can imagine how it suppresses the tacky surface and allows the grip to easily slide on, then it evaporates and the grips stays firmly in place. Brilliant!!!

Nice looking putter. I'm sure you have thought about this but a pre-bent shaft might be good for your next one. It would cost some ready made or with your talent most likely you could find a way to do that. I'm guessing here but a bent shaft might offer a better balanced club. I bet that wood on ball feels sweet. Thanks for the video, Dennis.
@StanCrafted
@StanCrafted 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis...thanks for the comment...funny you should mention the bent shaft...I found a putter at Goodwill that had one and took the shaft out of it for another putter. I’ve made 5 so far and like that one the best. The wood definitely has a nice feel to it. Thanks again!

What a wonderfully novel idea for a project and a vid! Superb vid with excellent music and such a lot of intriguing details. I'll reserve myself to one question - what's going on with the paint thinner at the end there? I didn't understand that bit. Cheers Stan, just a super job all round.
@StanCrafted
@StanCrafted 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mark...I actually thought about narrating this one because of things like that...but, I really enjoy answering questions in the comments and I didn't really know how much to narrate as some viewers might play golf and others not at all. The tape used to put all grips on clubs is a double sided affair...first you apply it to the shaft...then you need to dowse the tape and the grip both in solvent to make it slick enough to force the grip on the shaft...without it you'd never get the grip on. Thanks as always for your support!

That was crazy good Stan, if it’s good it doesn’t need words. I assume the weight and all worked out or was there anything different you would have done?
@StanCrafted
@StanCrafted 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Harki...I actually made the first one just to have a prototype of a putter I was going to have built for me to play around with a new putting style. It's very upright, a little bit longer and a bit heavier...the fact that it actually felt good and the ball came off the face well was a pure bonus! I weighed all of the components before glue up so I knew I would be close to what I wanted. At this point I can't say I'd do a lot different...but I am going to be making a few more in different head designs now that I know they are viable.

I’ve never golfed so does a wooden putter hit differently than a metal one?
@StanCrafted
@StanCrafted 4 жыл бұрын
I thought that it would be significantly different, but really it’s not. If anything the wood putter feels slightly softer...but just barely...and for most golfers that is a bonus. In fact, lots of metal putters have some sort of insert to get a softer feel.
