Hi gang! I promised to talk more about the USGA rules on putter head design but never added it to the video. You're better off pulling up the specs from the USGA directly, but here are some of the design guidelines I used for both putters: Putter head must be less than 7 inches wide. Putter face height must be less than or equal to 2.5 inches high. Putter head depth (face to back) must be equal to or less than 2/3 the width of the face. Shaft angle cannot exceed 80 degrees. Sight lines can't extend beyond the dimensions of the head. Hope you give this a try, and please post your comments about your own project! Love to hear how you did!

have you ever made a wooden putter that includes adjustable weights (screw in/out) to allow for personal preferences?

I really like that idea, but I haven't tried it. Seems like you would need different materials at different weights that would screw into the same holes on the head... I played with the total weights (both heel and toe) until it felt good for me and my stroke... but I think I'll look into other ideas on how to make it adjustable... That would be cool! Hey, thanks for watching! I used 5/8 inch Hickory from Baird Brothers which was how the old-timey golf clubs were made... works great. You can also check out my follow up putter project using Bubinga wood... also on our channel. I hope your project turns out great!

Hi back... I'm sorry I don't have any plans so I tried to cover as many details as I could in the videos. (I know you can do it!) If you start with a heavy hardwood in a 5" by 3" block 1.5" thick (127mm X 75mm X 38mm) the shape is really up to you. Remember to add weight back to get it to 350 grams and your shaft placement (center hole) should be 3/4" inside of the face, 1 3/8" in from the heel of the head. (20mm / 35mm) Those match my dimensions and it controls the ball pretty well. Hope your dad appreciates the work you're putting into it, and please let us know how your project turns out!

I am currently building a putter based on your mallet design out of Babinga! What type of epoxy do you us for the shaft and filling in the sinkers? Thanks!

Hi Will! Hoping you saw my Bubinga putter video too... It's a great wood to work with. I wound up using the same epoxy I had on hand from my Canoe build (Marineguard 8000). Since a lot of these epoxies only come in large sized containers, you can use smaller tube epoxies like the 5 minute syringe epoxies to solve your problem. They hold great and it's the same epoxy I use for regular golf club shaft repair, so you're good there. Wishing you sub-par on the links!

@@TheFamilyWoodworker Yes I have seen the Babinga video. Thanks so much for your videos and your reply. I am also going with the medium toe flow for the shaft. Do you have a suggested measurement away from the sightline for that?

@@willclarke5979 I think it depends on the width of the face, but with medium toe flow, the shaft should be centered half way between the center sight line and the edge of the head. That should work pretty well!
