Hello everyone, hope you have enjoyed our guide. We have a small correction to make following some new information. The bus stop that we reference as a former Clink or overnight prison cell, was actually the former blacksmiths! I guess it does make sense with the buildings out the back behind the building. The wonders of social media allow us to get the correct information.

This brought back so memories of living in lacock, we lived on Bowden Hill, but my two sisters and I went to the primary school there, I was married in St Cyriacs church and we had the wedding reception at the Red Lion, we used to wait for the bus in the bus shelter, and play in the little stream sometimes, I wonder why the road up to Bowden hill is closed off with a gate, we used to walk home up that road,over the two river bridges and up the hill home, we used to go down to the river sometimes and catch Sticklebacks, or try to, with a stick, some string and a bent pin 😂, could write a book about all the lovely memories. Regards from Australia 😃

I stayed at The Sign of the Angel several times. One of the most unique bathtubs was under a low beam that could have caused a concussion if you arose too quickly. Also the large entrance to the hotel was to allow horses to walk through to the back so that lodgers horses were off the street. My room, which I have a photo of, had a blackened beam right in the middle. The food in the restaurant was outstanding. This was one of my all time favorite hotels. Jane, Philadelphia

@@MemorySeekers Yes it was lovely. Our visit happened during a promotion that the National Trust had going, "Lacock as Propaganda". It seems Winston Churchill, during WWII, had photos of Lacock printed and circulated saying this is the England we are fighting for. Even Churchill thought Lacock was the quintessential English village. How cool is that? And my wife and I just stumbled into the place at that time and were amazed at how well it is preserved and how beautiful it is.

We visited Lacock Village in 2017. A gorgeous place to spend a day. Stop in the pub and tour the museum, which is a little gem. We explored Wiltshire for about 10 days and loved all of it: Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum (read the historical fiction book), Stonehenge, Avebury, Bradford on Avon (near Bath, home of an ancient church my husband wanted to see), beautiful Bowood House, with gardens designed by Capability Brown, and more. Beautiful countryside, historic architecture, lovely people and food. I would return in a minute!

We will be in Bradford Upon Avon on the channel in 2 weeks time. I think we visit the 12 century Saxon Church your husband wanted to see. Lovely place, super for walking around by the canal. Loved it! We stayed there when we were filming our Jane Austen video segments in Bath.
@alisab30413 жыл бұрын
@@MemorySeekers yes it was the Anglo Saxon church. We stopped in several during our trip since we were studying that period. My husband was a design professor (deceased just before Covid hit) and I’m an art historian so we especially admire the historical architecture in England. We have so little in the US, where buildings are often cheaply made and demolished in less than 100 years. My dad was a stone mason. A lost craft in many places in the US. I have watched several of your films this morning-thank you so much!! -Alisa
