More of my felt hats which are needle felted on a foam bolster pillow form, wet felted, and then shaped by hand into a variety of styles. I used wool, alpaca, mohair and even Angelina fibers in my hats. #felting

Thank you, Isabella! I've been experimenting with dyeing wool with food colors lately. I haven't tested the wool for fading yet, but oh, the colors!

Hello! I hope to add more felting videos in the next few months. I especially want to do a dread-lock hat from start to finish, which will be both needle felting and wet felting. Thank you for your comment!

Really fantastic - I've always wanted to have a go at wet felting a hat as they look so cute. How did you measure for the foam you needle felt onto? With the size of the foam, did you allow for shrinkage when wet felting? Thanks! xo

Hello Psy Fairy (love the name!)! I used a 12" diameter foam bolster pillow insert for needle-felting the hats. The foam bolster insert I bought (through Ebay) was 3 feet long, so I cut it in half (with my bread knife) so that I could have 2 hats going at once. Foam bolsters come in smaller diameters as well, and some online felting supply stores sell foam forms made specifically for hats (those tend to be expensive though). Because my bolster was so large, I didn't have to allow additional wool for shrinkage...I wanted the hat to wet felt smaller!. A few hats didn't shrink as much as I wanted, so I adapted the size when I was shaping the after wet felting....I'd add another fold to the brim. for example, so that the hat would be tighter around the forehead. Also, because I was making these for a shop, I didn't have to worry about a certain hat being a specific size for a specific person...if one hat didn't fit them, they could just try on another. I hope that helps...I love felting, and all the fibers are so beautiful and fun to experiment with...it can be addictive!
