Yet another shining example of the 70s love songs that were felt so deeply that they frequently brought people to tears with their honesty. No electronic gimmicks, no synthesizers, just talented musicians playing great music to underscore the incredibly well sung vocals.

I agree! The first time I saw and heard Dan sing the song in 1977, I was only 13 and hadn't been in love. As a piano student and singer, I labeled this song as "pretty" and well sung. I liked it very much. Many years later , I have a great appreciation for, and reverence for this beautiful song. It has a special place in my heart.

I loved this song way back when. My sister had the same opinion as your teenage self. I remember her laughing at the song and mocking the lyrics, and me when I protested that I loved the song. We were very close, but this was one thing we disagreed about. She's been gone ten years now, and I wish I could ask her if her opinion of the song has changed.

Here's a 63 year old who loved sappy love songs then, and still loves them now. (Which, BTW, is the reason I put in a vote for Johnny Lee's "Prisoner of Hope" the other day... or "Looking for Love," a bigger hit for him, but I prefer the former.)

Haven't heard this one in forever - but it's still one of the most beautiful ballads ever. Thank you for getting back to Canadian music. Amber - we have another fantastic French Canadian artist that I would love for you to react to. Gino Vannelli has an amazing ballad called Living Inside Myself - and a great uptempo song called Black Cars. And my very TOP French Canadian artist Roch Voisine. It would mean the world to me if you could watch his official video for I'll Always be There. Incredible song, vocals, and you'll BOTH love the piano and violin in the background. I'm hoping you see this - amongst all of you requests.

This takes me back to the innocence of school dances. When you nervously ask the pretty girl you've had a crush on to dance to this song. You take her hand, and lead her out to the dance floor and put your hands around her waist. You lean in close to her smelling how good her hair smells, Hoping that there might be a connection. I'm a 61 year old man now, but I treasure the innocence and great decade of the 1970's and the beautiful love songs we got to experience first hand. We can only go back there in our memories and browse through time, but wish that the visit could be longer.

This version is great, but it's when he was a little older than when the song was 1st released. As beautiful as this one is, the 1977 version is even better... Oh, btw, I remember seeing an interview of him talking about why he wrote this song. I believe he was having issues with his girlfriend. So, he wrote this song for her and sang it to her over the phone. He thought she'd love it. But, she just told him he was too serious or emotional (or something like that). She broke up with him any way. But, I guess He got the last laugh by making lots of money on song royalties!

This song puts me in mind of Dan Fogelberg's love song called 'Longer' which you absolutely have to listen to some day.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dan a few years back around 2017 as I was the manager at the theatre he was playing and it was interesting meeting him. He is very shy and mild mannered. From what I've heard and read this song packs emotion because this was a very real for Dan unrequited love of an older woman . Whatever the truth might be, he sings it with incredible conviction.

I saw him Edmonton, Alberta in one of his first concerts, before he was a somebody. Even then it was a powerful song and a concert worth going to. I hit like once I saw his name, no hesitation

When you get the chance ...another Canadian band to check out is April Wine. Just between you and me is a classic song that will never die. You should listen to that one first from them. Just a thought. ;) Out of all the Canadian bands.... The Barenaked Ladies were close to my family. My brother in law used to drive the bus when the bands went on tour. I got to see the Ladies twice and met them once. My sister was friends with their wives back then. Lots of songs from them to choose from. They sing the opening song for the Big Bang Theory.

“The Honesty’s Too Much” expresses perfectly how I felt as a ver young man who loved someone but was so afraid of total commitment. People really need to be sure and ready before committing.

You should listen to Canada's answer to "We are the World". Listen to the Group 'The Northern Lights' which is a reunion of Canadian singers. The song is called "Tears are not Enough" including such artists as Gordon Lightfoot, Burton Cummings, Anne Murray, Brian Adams, Dan Hill, Joannie Mitchell and many more. It was put together by David Foster, Brian Adams etc. Indeed it is Canada's answer to Barry Gordie and Michael Jackson's "We are the World" in the U.S.A.

Oh hey, more CanCon! Dan is still performing. Just saw an online promo for an upcoming concert. Other Dan Hill, though this one was his biggest hit: Carmelia Hold On McCarthy's Day Can't We Try (w/Vonda Shepherd) Yes, Dan wrote most of his own stuff. He isn't the only writer in the Hill family either, his brother is the well regarded novelist Lawrence Hill. Curious as to which Canadian acts you two have checked out. Gordon Lightfoot, for sure, and Céline Dion. But there are a few more: The Guess Who (and Burton Cummings solo) The Tragically Hip (and Gord Downie solo) Blue Rodeo Barenaked Ladies Great Big Sea Spirit Of The West Cowboy Junkies Heart Joni Mitchell Sarah McLachlan Jann Arden Anne Murray k.d. lang (she spells it that way) Lara Fabian Alanis Morissette Bryan Adams Johnny Reid Colin James Roch Voisine Paul Janz Michael Buble ...et cetera.

Still gives me chills! The great thing about growing up in late 60' and thru the 70's is that there was so much great music so many"genres." From John Denver, Elton John, Yes, Moody Blues, ELO, on and on Music isn't made like this anymore. Back then we LISTENED to music, song could go 8, 10 minutes and it was cool, we listened. And there was so much to listen to
