Amber and Rob...God continue to Bless you both. I've mentioned this before, I'm a 75 year old man and I feel honored to have lived during the times of "real" music, meaning sing your songs, no auto-tune, play your own instruments, etc. During the course of my life, I've been privy either seeing or hearing (live) most of the bands and singers you feature. Every time you post, it always brings a smile to my face. Sounds weird, but you both are "old souls" music wise and I truly appreciate you both.

What an awesome message!! To you and the other 70-somethings that replied, God bless you all!!! My youth is long gone (I’m 46), and almost no one my age that I know is still into music, it (evidently) is easy to give up on passion for music as you get older. The fact that you all appreciate Rob and Amber, and REAL music as it was makes you all AMAZING!! Much love from Boston!!

Interesting fact about this song: the lyric "a holy host of others standing 'round me" refers to the Beatles, who were recording in the same studio while James Taylor recorded this. In fact, Paul McCartney played bass on this song (he's credited on the album), and George Harrison provided (uncredited) backing vocals. Also, as a Carolina girl myself, this has been one of my favorites for a very long time. You can't go wrong with James Taylor!

Thank you for reacting to this song. My father died to pancreatic cancer last March. We had him set up in a bed our living room and as the time was drawing near we played his favorites songs on shuffle. This was the song playing as he took his last breath. I was introduced to James Taylor's music through him when I was younger, listening to this song will always be a doubled sided sword for me. "Dark and silent late last night, think I might have heard the highway calling". Love you, old man.

James Taylor’s voice literally gives me the chills. Love him so much. Here are a few fun facts: he was married to Carly Simon and they recorded the song Mockingbird together which is awesome. Carole King wrote You’ve Got a Friend; they were good friends and toured together. On this song, there are a couple of Beatles playing instruments and singing harmonies -Paul and George! James Taylor was signed to their record label at the time. A few more of my favorites are Your Smiling Face, Shower the People( Carly sings background), Mexico, How Sweet It Is (Carly sings background), Everyday, Country Road, Up on the Roof, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely- to get you started.

You could pretty much put on most any JT album as you boat around or road trip around and be totally wrapped up in his voice, tasty guitar and lyrics that seem to reach from his experiences that become yours. My personal favorite song is “The Secret Of Life” that I always think is the way we should all be but it’s not so easy. “Sweet Baby James” for sure. “Mexico”, “That Lonesome Road”- love songs? “You Can Close Your Eyes”, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”, “your Smiling Face”… yes he will always be in rotation on my list. I really think you should listen to Kenny Rankin- an amazing guitarist and such an amazing vocalist. His voice sounds almost like an instrument he plays. He interprets songs- jazzy feel- his version of the Beatles song “Blackbird” is a masterpiece. I love his twists on wonderful standards such as “When Sunny Gets Blue”

During college, I went to a JT concert w/friends. Someone there told us where James & the band walk to the bus after the show. You can see them up close and maybe chat w/them etc. So, we went there to wait for them. The band came out and were friendly and talking a bit. Then JT came over. He was so handsome, tall and tan (like that song goes) and had beautiful blue eyes. I got so nervous I started giggling & couldn't stop. He got a big kick out of it, called the band back over--then he winked at me. I have been to many JT concerts, -but that was one of my faves.

You nailed it when you said he brings a warmth with his voice. Yeah, he and John Denver really had that going on. Gordon Lightfoot had that quality too, but his catalog is so huge that the bigger hits sort of eclipse the mellower and warmer tunes like, "Song for a Winter's Night" or "Cotton Jenny". Great reaction guys! Love your channel... especially when I need to smile 🙂

Such a relaxing classic song. James is a legend and was even a special guest on The Voice. Imagine being vocally trained by him. Insane! I do suggest "Wandering."

Growing up, in the late 70s when I was a toddler, I have memories of James Taylor songs playing during key happy memories, which are unique beautiful moments among a lot of confusion and sadness. This song and Sweet Baby James especially. Most likely from a tape my parents had of his greatest hits (funny you mentioned Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan because those were played too). Anyway I feel so many bittersweet feelings come up when I hear James Taylor. It reminds me of the love that was around me despite the other difficulties going on. ❤

James Taylor is simply a national treasure. His beautiful melodies, harmonies and descriptive lyrics, i.e. "hey baby the sky's on fire" evoke memories of gorgeous sunsets I've enjoyed over the years. Whenever I feel the need to chill out, James Taylor is always on my playlist. So nice to see a whole new generation of music lovers appreciate one of my favorite singer/songwriters!

James Taylor's voice is like warm, melted honey. I love that u also talked about his acoustic guitar playing. He has a unique style, which is very recognizable, and he is known as one of the best acoustic guitarists.. You may want to try his song "You Can Close Your Eyes." He wrote it for Joni Mitchell when they were a couple and she couldn't sleep. He ends almost all of concerts with that song. It's so beautiful. He has many terrific songs. He also is great live. He still tours--maybe he will come to your neck of the woods. I'm lucky cause I'm on the east coast--and he tours in the my general area about every other year. Just saw in September in DC. Really enjoy your channel❤🎶

I love the steel guitar in the background. For another great JT song. He was driving down to Carolina to his sister's house. His nephew (named after him) was having a Christeningand I think JT was the Godfather. He decided to write the little guy a song. It is called Sweet Baby James. Absolutely beautiful song, and was a huge hit too. I am leaving a link to a video of James doing the song live. I am also leaving you a link for an album I know y'all are gonna love. It is called Greatest hits of the 70s, and has songs from Jim Croce, John Denver, James Taylor and Bread. That one is for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!! 1) Sweet Baby James - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIKsq6h5d9emh7c 2) Greatest Hits of the 70s - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jabclHtsmbdpmcU

Beautiful song. One of the tests of a well written song is when it transports you into the world where you become one with the song. There are many songs that do this but James had a knack for doing it over & over. You can see the world he is writing about, feel that warm sun, capture the smells as vividly as if it were real. That is a true singer/song writer.

Fun fact, James Taylor was first signed by The Beatles record label, Apple Records, and this song appeared on his first album. I heard him interviewed where he said he was auditioning for a producer at Apple Records in London and had no idea it was The Beatles company until the producer picked up the phone and asked if any of The Beatles were in the building, he wanted them to hear this guy James Taylor. He said a short time later George and Ringo walked in and listened to his demo and sighed him right then.

So I'm in Brazil, which we loved and spent several years focused on learning Portuguese at a fairly high level because, duh, we were in BRAZIL, but, finally, we had a bunch of Brazilian friends that wanted an English "class" once a week. So we walk in one of the first few meetings and this song was playing, because they knew we were from Chapel Hill. And it was just one of those days, however much you love your adopted country, and I start bawling, absolutely homesick, which this song captures perfectly. The host felt so bad...

Hi Amber and Jay. Have you ever considered asking the folks who comment on your reviews if they would indicate where they reside at the time of making a comment? This could be by state in the US and by country for those outside. I think this would give you some idea of how widely scattered are your friends here in KZbin land. Love to the two of you and the kids (I haven’t heard you mention them for a while.) Jeff in the UK.

This fits! I’m not a happy camper right now, just got a cast put on a broken ankle! So I’m counting on you guys to keep me mellow for the next 6 weeks! This truly helps! If you really like acoustic guitar, you should check out Roy Clark, who in my opinion is this greatest guitarist of all time!! Check his version of “Malagueña” on the tv show The Odd Couple, where he does it on the acoustic guitar. He does many other versions, but this is my favorite, as I have a soft spot for acoustic guitar. Another acoustic instrumental which will melt Amber’s heart is “Lara’s Theme” by Mr Clark.❤❤❤❤❤❤

Written and first recorded while he was in London (1968) recording his first album for the Beatles' Apple Record label.(This version isn't that recording, but a re-recording he did in the mid-'70s for his "Greatest Hits" collection.). The line "With a holy host of others standing around me..." is said to be a reference to the Beatles, who were presumably present in the studio.

Other JT songs you should hear are Sweet Baby James, Country Road, and Shower the People. He is still performing after 50+ years and his voice has hardly changed. Fun fact: Taylor Swift was named after him and they have performed Fire and Rain together (It's on KZbin.). At Christmas time, you should hear his perfect version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas from 2006.
