Thank you so much for watching! My brother and I traveled across Central Asia in October 2019. Read about locations and trip details below:
Akhal-Teke horses are beloved by the people of Turkmenistan, and known around the world for their beauty and endurance. We visited a ranch in Turkmenistan outside the capital city, Ashgabat.

In order to obtain Akhal-Teke horses, the ancients China launched an expeditionary war 2,000 years ago. They sent 100,000 soldiers to travel 4,000 kilometers to Central Asia to fight a horse-grabbing war. 90,000 people died and hundreds of horses were obtained

He launched more then one expedition to obtain a Akhal-Teke, the first 2 failed, last expedition was successful but I read that he only obtained a handful of horses and had only 3,000 of his men survived, it was also said that the ones he obtained had accidentally ran across his armies military line during the last battle, when the warriors were knocked from their horses.

The Ahal Teke horse comes from the Teke tribe in the Ahal province of Turkmenistan and btw the first treat they gave you is called “Pişme” it’s usually eaten with jam or honey:)

Perfect description about the turkmen bread: "...it leaves you want it more." I tried it when I visited Turkmenistan, and I still remember the taste. It really makes you want it more and more. It is really delicious and tasty.

Been looking for a decent vlog series on Central Asia and finally found it with you guys. Would love to have seen more of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. You could've easily spent two weeks just in Uzbekistan. The region is certainly on my bucketlist, but who knows when I will get there. The non traditional music gave the places a very modern vibe, but I was in general surprised to see how modern some of these places are. There were parts you showed that were even more modern then the US. Overall, nice job showcasing what the region is like. You guys are Central Asian? Would love to see more videos from other places you've traveled to. I saw an Egypt snippet in there.

The Macedonian’s had their own breed of horse that is now extinct, Akhal-Teke was used to create this breed, unfortunately the Macedonian war horse was fairly new and it died off shortly after Alexander died during the fall his empire. Alexander the Great’s favourite horse Bucephalus was one of these Macedonian war horses. Another unfortunate event is one of the horses required in the breading of the Macedonian war horse was also wiped out during the fall of the Macedonian empire, thus making the revival of the breed impossible. They used the Akhal-Teke bloodline’s because of its durability and adaptability in the desert, combined with 2 other breeds to great a multipurpose horse capable of carrying heavy gear but light enough for battle, that could also survive extreme conditions where the other horses died. Akhal-Teke is the ancestor of many horse breeds we have today the thoroughbred is one of them.

Thank you! While learning about these ancient breeds I began to wonder about Bucephalus. Sad that it sounds like we will not see one like him again.

Hi! Turkmenistan is definitely worth visiting! 😊 As a highly regulated country, tourists must travel with a tour guide or program. If you ask your local tour guide to take you to a ranch, you shouldn't have a problem seeing these horses! I hope this is helpful!

1:38 this horse has a condition called “Swayback” no he’s not thin and not abused he just has this condition:) It is a loss of muscle and can not be fixed or prevented. The best thing is to not ride it:)

very bumpy ride... Try riding a gated horse breed, paso finos, tenessee walker, missouri fox trotters, as a matter fact go do a video.. Maybe a rare breed and useful for dessert lands, you can run with them, but they are not pleasure riding horses, the ride is very bumpy unless you trot or run.

@@slavish_superiority Way more expensive on average. Lower end thoroughbreds with no notable pedigrees are cheap, Akhal Takes are not. However, high end thoroughbreds are just about the same.
