Old hummingbird style depth finder. I remember when I was little watching that thing on my dads boat

Still highly effective for finding depths and cover. I love mine and they a relatively cheap compared to a lot of stuff these days!

Love the LiveScope reference. Now I feel like some of us old times where were around during the early flasher days can claim to be the first "Live Scope" users. But in all honesty I think that this is still the best tool for sitting still and vertical jigging (for those of us who cant afford a LiveScope". I like my Garmin fishfinder because it has a flasher mode so I can switch from 2D to flasher as needed.

So darn good for vertical jigging. At this point I do not have an interest in realtime FFS/LiveScope technologies. I've read and watched tons of video from folks who are for it and against it -and though I think the tech looks awesome I don't think it's for me. I personally enjoy catching fish I cannot see in most situations. I really like my flasher for crappie though since most of the year they are out suspending somewhere and, for me, not usually that eager to bite -the flasher really helps me fine tune my presentation and it also helps me paint a better picture of submerged cover I find.

I think I might know where you're at. If it is, how do you get your kayak out there?

It may very well be another spot then?? This spot does have a gravel boat ramp to get your craft to the water. I would love to give you more details about the spot, but I like to let the viewer find the spots on their own. I know thats not very helpful, but I do appreciate you asking and getting out there and exploring! Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions in regards to catching crappie :D

For sure! I tried Saylorville for the first time the other day -it was Sunday morning after we had that overnight low dip down to 40 -pure sunshine and the water was glass. Crappies definitely were not on the bank at the time -took me 3 hours to find a few out deeper. Working on that video now actually :). I used to skateboard even more than I fish now lol. I still love it - but my body doesn't anymore. I about need an ankle surgery and a lot of conditioning to be back lol

@AnticipateTheBite lol same I destroyed my knee so fishing is the new main focus. BC spillway was on fire for about a week, I was up on Sunday & managed 2 before getting the fly rod out for some LMB

Is this pond private or public?
@AnticipateTheBite
@AnticipateTheBite 4 ай бұрын
Nearly every fish on this channel is caught on public water 🤫 That being said my motives for the channel are to share my experiences and what I am learning on the water in hopes folks learn a thing or two from those experiences. I put a lot of work into finding and catching these fish and most of the time it is not easy! lol I encourage folks who find themselves fishing the same water as me to learn the water well -learn what fish are "special" in those waters and use good judgement in regards to catch and release. -I just want all of us to appreciate fish as much as we enjoy "ripping lips". Hope none of this sounds too pretentious -I mean to say it in all kindness! All that aside, I wish ya the best of luck and I hope you catch some good ones! Have a great day sir and thanks for checking out the channel 🤝🎣

No complaints here! I hope one day I run into a true trophy. 17" is my expectation for a "wall mounter" -may take my whole life, but I am hoping one day my patience is rewarded.

Nice crappie for a 10 foot pond

I suppose you could call it a bit more than a pond -a barrow pit would be a better description of it. But yes, no depth variation. The whole thing is just a ten foot flat about end to end. Barely even any changes in bottom substrate. About as boring as it gets when it comes to structure.

@@AnticipateTheBite ok cool interesting we have a few ponds on our place that are man made. Wish they were big like this.

@@moblack5883 I have done some light reading on pond management, ponds are usually quite small. Any body of water can only handle so many pounds of fish per acre. Super summarized and dumbed down -from what I have heard landowners are advised NOT to stock crappie into smaller waters (pond) with bass and bluegill -if the landowner is trying to grow giant bass... Crappie are very successful breeders and can over populate -and stunt in the course of a few years. Overpopulation often times effects the growth of a population -too many fish competing for resources. Sometimes it works though -for reasons way beyond the time I have to research and school myself on. It's all a crazy balancing act. Crappie size and numbers can fluctuate rapidly based on several years of very successful -or not so successful spawns. I have seen it happen in one of my very local waters -used to have giants... 3 years later -a stunted population of starving fish. I have yet to piece together the mystery of what factors create a water that produces giant crappie -sometimes it just happens and you're in the right place at the right time. In Iowa, I consider anything 11-12"+ to be a big crappie -especially if the fish are built and dense. All my previous experience has taught me one thing about crappie -some water can grow em' well and some can't AND If they are small check back again in a few years and see if the size of the fish has changed at all -for better or for worse.

Sorry, I am confused by what you're saying? I let most of the fish I catch go. For me personally, the joy I get from fishing comes from figuring out how to catch them.
