Fascinating old footage to watch, the people all look so smartly dressed! Interesting to see the original Battersea Power Station before the second part was added. An excellent restoration!

@vegan_because_we_care Oh, bless your naive little heart! It's adorable how you find a grainy old film more appealing than the vibrant, bustling city of today. I suppose you have a penchant for sepia-toned nostalgia and can't appreciate the progress and development that has transformed London into the global metropolis it is now. But hey, if you prefer horse-drawn carriages and gas lamps over modern infrastructure and cultural diversity, who am I to burst your bubble? Enjoy living in your rose-tinted fantasy while the rest of us revel in the marvels of living in the present.

Yes, I think there’s definitely a correlation between the rise of multiculturalism and the demise of our society. Also, it’s irritating how modern media tries to push the false narrative that we’ve always been multicultural and ethnically diverse. I watched a modern film recently that depicted London at the turn of the last century and there were BAMEs everywhere! You only have to watch footage like this to see how that was simply not the case prior to WW2.

@benbow7 The British are descended from many varied ethnic groups that settled in Great Britain in and before the 11th century: These include Prehistoric, Brittonic, Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Norse, Celts, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and Frisians and Normans. So I'll break that down for you, Norway, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, France, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Basically the Brits are mongrels.

Life as seen by my parents eyes in 1933, looked a bit more civilised than now, a sense of pride, not completely as compared to 2022, expected there was hardship, no NHS, Labour exchange’s, no mayor or TfL, was there a state pension?.
@malpreece50087 ай бұрын
I think it was a lot more civilised. Undoubtedly there was hardship, but many things functioned better without government interference. Prior to complete dependence on the state, people often developed solutions to their own problems as they did with the creation of friendly societies and saving societies. Welfare was largely the provision of the church, which had its advantages as people were given moral support as well as aid. That said, Labour exchanges, which I think were introduced around 1909 by Churchill and Beverage, were useful for connecting the unemployed with potential employers. The Old Age Pensions Act was introduced in 1908, and the compulsory unemployment insurance scheme of 1911 provided a safety net for millions. Not sure the position of London Mayor is necessary. Seems to be another unnecessary bureaucrat squandering public money. 🤷🏻♂️

I recall London in the 50s - everything shut half the time, especially Sunday which was so boring unless you had your homework to finish, and that depressing radio show "Sing Something Simple"... Everything was filthy and primitive. Tin baths hanging on the kitchen wall. No, give me 2023 any day, and a decent curry! I miss the trolley-buses though.

This is what Germany knew and we wasn't told............ “At the beginning of 1924, we received a call from Baron Louis de Rothschild; one of his friends, Max Warburg from Hamburg, had read my book and wanted to get to know us. To my great surprise, Warburg spontaneously offered us 60,000 gold marks, to tide the movement over for its first three years.” In his book «Praktischer Idealismus», Kalergi indicates that the residents of the future “United States of Europe” will not be the native People of the Old Continent, but a kind of sub-humans, products of miscegenation. He clearly states that the peoples of Europe should interbreed with Asians and colored races, thus creating a multinational flock with no quality and easily controlled by the ruling elite.
