3:53 Apparently, a Wool Stapler is a dealer in wool / a person who sorts wool, according to the staple or fiber. Always interesting to see professions on these beautiful old stones!

A wool stapler buys and sorts wool before selling to a wholesaler and a corn factor is a corn wholesaler. What a great cemetery. The family plot with the marble effigy was amazing.

I didn't know that "Bloody" was considered a swear word in England.😊 The stone with lady with elbow on books could represent a scholar, or can symbolize the good deeds of the departed, as recorded in the book of life. I so enjoy your walks and information from cemeteries!❤ That dump is so very, very sad!😢
@Boogledigs8 ай бұрын
Oh my goodness! When I was young, "bloody" was considered extremely offensive indeed.. say it and you got a hard slap.
@jonathanlewis4538 ай бұрын
The origins of the term “Bloody” are supposedly that it is an invocation of the Virgin Mary by compressing the expression “By our lady”. Given the things which people routinely say nowadays, it is the legacy of an era far more deferential than our own.
@artcflowers8 ай бұрын
Yes, bloody is/was a sacrilegious reference to the blood of Christ, so i have been told. Might have a reference to the crucifixion as well.
@greywebs19448 ай бұрын
Bloody can be worded differently, and it's not all about Christ. You don't just say "bloody" it might be Bloody Hell or Bloody Brilliant etc. I prefer the word "bugger" I got told off more for that as a kid 🤣

Not in the United States. This isn't the middle aged. In the United States caskets are put in heavy cement vaults before being put in the ground. I have no problem with cremation. I just prefer being buried. Plots are owned in the United States, not rented. By the way. I really love your site. It's very interesting!!! Glad I found you!!☺️☺️☺️
@janetholden197825 күн бұрын
They do that in the USA because of the water tables apparently to stop the caskets rising and floating if it floods. Some of the cemeteries in America are in poor condition

I don't blame you for wanting to be cremated. Cemeteries are shady when it comes to dumping bodies and digging up old graves to make room for new corpses. If I end up being cremated, I want my family to fill me with popcorn kernels first, that way the cremation guys get a little surprise and a laugh.😂😂
@lozinozz75678 ай бұрын
There is a cemetery in Western Australia currently doing this. The actual graves are not being removed but all trace above ground is being moved and there will be new burials in between plots. Some of the headstones are being smashed in the process. Disgraceful and disrespectful for all concerned.

You know what I think, kind sir? I think you should invest in a decent handheld scanner, like an Einstar, and scan and create some beautiful 3-D models of some of these more spectacular grave markers which you could then share with your subs for a small donation or cup of coffee/tea. It would be cool to use my 3-d printers to print out some of the more ornate ones just for the fun of it, especially around Halloween.

Thank you for the walk. I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing how beautiful these cemeteries are. All the overgrowth in some areas, doesn't even make it look messy and unkept, I personally think it adds to the beauty. Where I'm from, though the cemeteries are well manicured, they just aren't as beautiful, and I mean no disrespect by saying this.

It's amazing to see these types of monuments. In the USA, these types of monuments are few and in between. Especially the further south you get. I guess families wanted to let other people know how important they were when in fact, (in the grand scheme of things) who they were and what they achieved is not important. It's what they learned and did for others spiritually.
@cynthiajones324126 күн бұрын
I find it strange how some of the cemetery is mowed and looked after and then you have headstones fallen over, destroyed and overgrowth and forgotten.
@andrewwilks51558 ай бұрын
Totally agree that this was ABSOLUTELY disrespectful what was done in that part of cemetery with the destroyed headstones with everything dug up there including the newer headstone as well being destroyed and dug up! A good reason here to get cremated here as opposed to being buried only for some disrespectful jerks to come and destroy, dig up and disrespect your grave.
@lozinozz75678 ай бұрын
I try to research the cemeteries you visit when I can. I was reading the newsletter for this cemetery and the volunteers have been working very hard to restore the graves and clear the undergrowth. I dare say the pile has something to do with that.

The cemeteries there in the UK look so much nicer and beautiful than the cemeteries here in the states like many other things between the UK and states. Many of things here in the states look plain and ugly compared to what is in the UK.
@jamesfournier34588 ай бұрын
I was brought up in England as a child. As kids, my brother and I would go to the old cemeteries and walk around. Fascinated by the old tombstones and how beautiful they were. You are right. Many really old things in England, houses, cemeteries etc. are hundreds of years old and still are exquisite and beautiful. Where as here in the US , we either tear it down or they look derelict and ugly.

In an age which welcomes me to my gas bill, perhaps I should not be too disturbed when someone welcomes me to a cemetery. For the time being at least, I think I shall be content to tiptoe around the domain of the dead, feeling like an intruder.

Whilst on holiday I visited a grave in Havana which had lots of pregnant women around it. Legend has it that it was the grave of a woman who died in pregnancy. When she had to be exhumed and buried in the new cemetery she was found to be holding a baby in her arms. Great reverence was given to her grave and the pregnant women were not allowed to them round when leaving the grave so walked backwards. It was interesting but very strange. When we left the cemetery we were also all searched for human bones in case we would use them in a voodoo ceremony
