I looked at our native address plants and we don’t have gamma grass as a native species. It is one county south of us though. We have a native prairie right across from us though. Thanks for adding others on your KZbin channel. I follow Russ Wilson now. He is very gifted to f creating and making new stuff out of nothing. When do you think you might get corner post to sell? I’m going to pick up half a steer tomorrow that was one of ours that you sold as a feeder cattle. I’m looking forward to a south poll. Thanks!

I like your idea Greg. We put out Wild Bird Feed. The next summer, we had 3 unidentifiable flowers, trees that had to call the County Extension Office to come out and identify. They were VERY excited because they were found n our area. Only explanation the experts n the State Capital could come up with was birds!

Do both--see which one works better. Learning is the funnest part. Also I've read of soaking certain types of seeds in an acidic solution to replicate traveling through a digestive system. Common knowledge here says that cedar (Eastern Redcedar) berries have to go through a bird's system to become viable seeds. I was going to inquire about gamagrass in TN, then I realized that I've never seen any because practically every pasture is conventionally grazed. I want to plant some to see how it'll do here. Perhaps there are mob grazers in my area already grazing it?

@@amytaylor9108 Met a local farmer yesterday who has wool sheep, and she says they're reworking their fences for rotational grazing! My first LOCAL contact who gets what Regenerative Ag is and is willing to change. They're converting a long-time conventional operation. Exciting for me anyway.

Hey Greg, for what it's worth, my grandfather used to feed his chickens unbroken grain (short explanation why: communism = no access to a mill). They would swallow it, and what came out the other end looked like perfectly regular chicken manure. Just as if they were eating normal feed.

Greg I am sorry to be pedantic, but it is not pronounced 'Her-fod', the Here- part is pronounced as in Terror, Here-ford not fod at the end. It sounds much nicer and does a beautiful breed and County justice.

Sir, we're Americans. We say "Herferd". We all no doubt saw that movie "The Rare Breed" (Maureen O'Hara and Juliet Mills pronounce Hereford the way you do), but even our agriculture classes say "Herferd"

Hereford cows make me think of Grampy Smith and canned corn beef he was a WW 1 Vet who served in France and ate a lot of it though he called it Bully Beef. It was just in the last year that I found out that the Bully doesn’t refer to the animals it is an English corruption / contraction of a French cooking term . I certainly have eaten a ton of it too in hashes and sandwiches Mum bought the Hereford brand and so did I. Brand loyalty is often the way to shop if I strayed and bought a different brand on sale I always went back to the brand that had the white faced Hereford on the label. I don’t buy it or cans of Chicken Haddie another favourite of Mums she used it to make fish cakes and soups I have no idea how the canned white fish got that name. That’s what happens when you are sent to a clinical dietitian for advice she said drop the red meat and switch to Salmon. She is also the person who told me I had two choices if I want to eat in a restaurant I think I likely have told you about the poor choices and dammed poor choices. Inner editor is complaining about my spelling to bad I just realized time for the next set of eye drops so I will say thank you for the tour 🌟🖖🖖🖖💖🌟💖👍👍👍🌟🙋🏼‍♀️

Hi Greg, something I don't understand is how you vary the length of the total pasture rotation. I just watched a video where you said you extended the rotation from 28 days to 180 days. How do you prevent overgrazing when extending the rotation period?
@elizebethparker5412
@elizebethparker5412 2 жыл бұрын
It is an extended rest period lasting 28 to 180 days. His grazing only last 1/2 a day on any one portion of feild.
@yOdINGdONGmANdINGdON

@@elizebethparker5412 so he has a lot of pasture that doesnt get grazed when he does a 28 day rotation?
@elizebethparker5412
@elizebethparker5412 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. As a matter of fact it is the opposite. The entire pasture is grazed in 28 days! He devides his pasture into 56 large paddocks and spends 1/2 day on each spot.
@yOdINGdONGmANdINGdON
@yOdINGdONGmANdINGdON 2 жыл бұрын
so how does he change that to 180 days and not overgraze each paddock? Culling or selling a bunch of animals? Thanks for answering btw
@elizebethparker5412
@elizebethparker5412 2 жыл бұрын
All timing is dictated by the rate of grass growth. The 28 day rotation is for early spring and rapid grow. As the grass growth slowes the number of paddocks increases so the animals spend their 1/2 day on smaller amounts of field. This allows the grass more rest. During dry periods it may be 180 days or 6 months before the animals return to the same spot. Yes, culling animals to reduce stocking density is also important.
