Beautiful & Unique! World’s Largest Mesa with 300+ Lakes - Grand Mesa Colorado (near Grand Junction)

A very unique and beautiful place just southeast of Grand Junction - Grand Mesa is the world’s largest mesa.. It covers over 500 square miles and reaches an elevation of 11,000 feet. It has 300 plus lakes and reservoirs.
Due to ancient volcanic activities, the mesa is covered by a hard layer of volcanic basalt. The video captures a hike along the Crag Crest Trail. The views from the trail were beautiful and expensive. Instead of doing the entire loop, I did an out-and-back as I really loved the views from the crest.

Grew up in front-range CO camped all over and untill 3 years ago no one bothered to mention this Natl. Forest to me. I've driven right past it for Moab. It's indescribable, you have to see the flat tops for yourself. The west is still wild. Great footage.

Brings back lots of memories. Enjoyed spending time here with my dad and others who are no longer here. The actual name for this place is GRAND Mesa, because it is the largest mesa. Kinda sounds like Grant though when you hear it. 😊 my favorite place on the mesa is Island Lake. So beautiful.

It looked like you were hiking solo on this one. Please be careful and prepared for sudden winter storms. I lost 3 classmates in my senior year of high school to a freak snow storm in the San Gabriel Mountains. Thanks again for sharing your hikes!
