I guess on the mouse front, I'd have either you or Cory stay inside after it's completely dark out, turn off all the lights inside the cabin. Get a very high powered light of some sort. Shine it from the inside. Then start with the corners, have the other person outside and see if they can see where there is light coming through. Just keep moving around to the different spots. Underneath, corners, under the eaves, etc. Would probably take a while, but you should be able to figure out the spots where they're getting in.

Mothballs or peppermint oil for the mice. Look for the tiniest gap because they can squeeze through. Hang the bird feeder from a higher tree branch it’s wire and put some kind of baffle on the top to keep squirrels away if you can. Things are looking good for the winter.

We also have a off grid cabin. Mice can climb t1-11 and anything rough cut. They can also chew though the corners of wood. My traps and bucket trap dosnt work. Tomcat poison worked for only a year. I have noticed a big difference after useing Decon and the poison with the chunks of peanuts in them. At our place so far they have chewed the following.. 3 extension cord ends, 2 string lights, 2 PVC ball valves and 1 propane fitting. There ruthless.

Another great option is shave Irish spring soap bars or keep them whole bc for some odd reason mice hate Irish spring soap bars. And your home smells good too 😊

You should try to keep some of that wood dry...tarp or something, till you get a wood shed. Wet wood won't burn.

Jodi, a good way to take care of the mice is to get a cat and take it with you when you go to the cabin. I would look for a rescue cat but one that is a couple years old. Cats are good for that.

I miss her too 😞. She’s coming back ASAP. I’m in grad school right now and even took classes all summer. So it’s hard to get away for more than a day or two. I graduate in May, so I’m hoping to do loads of BWCA-ing this upcoming summer. ❤️

Just came from the BWCA and took a side trip to see the 270-degree overlook at the northern terminus of the Superior Hiking Trail. If you haven't been there, put it on your bucket list and bring the drone!

Peppermint oil is an effective method for keeping mice and rats away. These rodents cannot stand this oil's robust and minty smell, so a few drops around your home can go a long way in keeping them away. I'm told cinnamon may also work. (try the peppermint essential oil on cotton balls- that you can re-wet "next time you leave"; and they can also be put away in a container while you are there for dog safety!) Also, there is a web page (access on your phone) that will emit a very high fluctuating frequency that can chase them out; But it may drive the dogs crazy. Supposedly, only the rodents hear it but one of you might want to take the dogs "for a walk" when you try that on arrival at the cabin. I have to walk away from the phone too while it is going off. RE: Toasting that bagel; you could place a piece of foil or a plate as a lid ... just don't let them burn!
