The song was 1st recorded by the Apple records band Badfinger. It was written by the band members Tom Evens and Pete Ham. When Harry recorded this one, Tom and Pete were invited to hear the playback before it was issued and the story goes that they both broke down and cried at the beauty of Harry's rendition. Harry wrote the song One which the Three Dog Night had a hit on, and Cuddly Toy which the Monkees recorded. He did a lot of stuff for other artists. His version of the song One is classic. I also loved his love song to his desk called My Old Desk. He did a song called Joy in which you will hear him sing "Joy to the world was a beautiful girl, but to me Joy meant only sorrow" He did a beautiful Christmas song called Remember. I loved his background vocals for Ringo Starr on the song You're Sixteen. I recommend you check these out.

Ahh this takes me back to my very young days in the 70s when I was (if you can believe it) innocent and romantic, and I bloody loved this song. Many years later, I now find the romantic intensity very OTT. But you are right, he has a beautiful voice and this is the definitive version, Mariah and her vocal gymnastics can bog off...

Hi Lainie! Wow! A fast trip back 50 years! (Released 1971) Fantastic song and lots of memories. Yes, Mariah does a version\cover of it. It's not bad. Nilsson and his producer Richard Perry had an argument over lunch and then remembered they had the studio time reserved for this song. Harry went in and recorded the vocal tracks for this in one take. So many studio musicians enjoyed working with Harry. That piano track was laid down by Gary Wright, who went on to give the world the "Dreamweaver" album.

Love Harry Nilsson! The Nilsson Schmillson album came out when I was in high school. Just about everyone I knew had this album. Harry also spent a great deal of time with John Lennon during “the lost weekend” which lasted about 18 months❤️

This is a cover Harry Nilsson did of Badfinger's song Without you!! Pete Ham and Tommy Evans of Badfinger wrote this! Pete wrote this song about his girlfriend Bev!! Nope not Mariah Carey and not Harry Nilsson original either!!!!
