OMG, I loved this more than I could ever imagine; thank you very much, Sir!🌜🥰🌛I only knew the interpretation of this song by Forestella (which I already liked a lot) but I’ve never searched for the original version of it… then, Sir Hairless comes with all his beautiful ways of dealing with music and conducts me to discover this wonderful creation… wow! I’m totally into all those little "weird" musical details of the composition and I guess I might be slightly in love with the 80’s gorgeous depiction of the vocalist!😅Forestella is really wonderful interpreting this song but they will need to forgive me now, because their beautiful rendition of ‘Hijo de la luna’ will get the second place in my heart after discovering this *amazing* original version❣

This descending chord progression from the chorus is also called the "Andalusian Cadence" and is very typical for flamenco where it's usually thought of more as a modal phrygian key - in this case eb phrygian rather than ab minor.

The first time I heard Mécano it was for their song Une femme avec une Femme… a woman with a woman…it is a long time ago and they were talking about something rather taboo at the time. It was so so beautiful… she sang in French..it was a hit here in France… very heartfelt and eerie too…

Wouw, what an instant flash back in time. To this day I remember the exact spot I had to stop the car, desperately looking for a pen and some paper, hoping the radio host would tell the name of the group and the song again after this wonderful music. He did and I bought my first mecano CD hours later. Thank you for your reaction.

I liked your reaction/analysis of this amazing song! How the world works, really... I got to know Mecano and this song specifically because my favorite group did a cover of it and I really liked the original! I hope the request you received is the Forestella cover (as amazing as the original). If not, here's my suggestion.

Oh My god I remember in nightclubs in mid -late 1980s that would be the final closing slow dance every time ... and key changes you do not like, I love it, literarily makes my hair stand in overwhelming emotion, cause it hits me like the wave of my feet

My apologies; the above comment is a bit rude. Sir is reacting and breaking down Mecado's original. I wasn't familiar with it at all. The complete backstory of Mecado's song is engrossing, as is the performance and production. I had not bothered to learn about the original piece after I fell in love with Forestella's cover. Intellectually lazy of me. Thank you, Sir, for this deep dive, and thank you, fans of the original and of Mecado, for your insights too.

MECANO was quite a smash when they came into the musical scene. I remember how some people absolutely loved them and some absolutely hated them. They have very unique lyrics, melodies, harmonies, scansion, themes, dynamics. Not your average group by any stretch. They also disbanded at the height of popularity, which left a lot of us wanting more. I could say a lot of things, but I think it would be better if you deep dive into this group. Mu suggestions: Dali, Heroes de la Antartida, Cruz de Navajas, el 7 de septiembre, No es serio este cementerio, Un ano mas, el blues del esclavo. Honestly, all of their songs are breathtaking. It is composed, aranged, and played by the two brothers that you saw in the video.

Nice that you discovered Mecano :) If you want one more amazingly weird and wonderful Spanish 80's sone, you can't miss Eloise by Tino Casal. It is a cover of an older song by Paul Ryan, and Tino Casal recorded it in Abbey Road, with Andrew Powell making the amazing musical arrangements and the London Philharmonic Orchestra playing them. Definitely something you won't expect and I think you will truly love it for how specially cool it is :) The live version is specially fun to watch now, so so so 80's, lol. Amazing how you were able to teach me new things about a song I grew up with and know inside out. Thank you so much

@@SirHairless There’s an interesting sound in the song at 13:54 in your video (2.43-2:44 in the original song). We tried to remove it with the DJ, because I thought it was a compression error. Till this day, I still don’t know if it is an error, or part of the original song. 🤣

I really enjoyed this! This song was a HUGE hit all over Europe when I was in high school & I was enchanted by it 😍 I listened to as much of their music as I could find & tried to translate their often obtuse lyrics.. I owe it to Mecano that I have any Spanish at all 😂 Before this international hit & this album, they started out as a New Wave band & the cool nerds at my school started getting into that stuff as well when the Hijo de la Luna furor had died down.. They have some truly brilliant songs. I think you might like Aire for example. For an electrifying interpretation of Hijo de la Luna you may want to check out the version by Karsu in the Dutch music show Beste Zangers ❤️

I've always loved this song, plenty of Mecano songs are great, They weren't afraid of doing weird, quirky songs. One of my favorites is about the dead waking up at night, No es serio este cementerio (It's not serious this cemetery ). Growing up In Latin America it's weird to think of Mecano as unknown XD btw The composers are the guys that did the chest bump, the Cano brothers. I think this song in particular was composed by the short haired one.

Such a fascinating song, full of interest, then the beautiful voice. I will find it and listen again. Where did the story of the song come from? That I need to find out as well. Without your channel I might never have heard the song and that would be a great pity. To switch topics, I have been meaning to ask if you would please give kd lang a listen. I think her version of Hallelujah is a great place to start. This link will take you to her best of several excellent versions of the song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpCxoauKjMeirKcsi=YctkdUoiBbawYNJx One year after this one she sings it in front of Leonard Cohen himself who turns to his companion and says, "I think we can put this song to bed." Anyway, thanks once more Sir H!

According to Wikipedia, it's a tragic Romani legend. I didn't dig deeper into it though I've had kd lang recommended to me before - and I even polled her - but she didn't win. I'm sure I'll get round to her in the future at some point, although the next few months are completely chock-a-clock (especially with Christmas coming up 🎄) Thank you!
