I’ve worked with youth and their worst enemies were their parents and other adult leaders. They errantly would jump in and take charge of things so the kids did not fail. I also noticed that the ones who offered the most resistance, were also the most intelligent. That is why they question every thing. Failure is a necessary component of growth. If we allow them to be in charge and accept their small failures, they will be strong enough to handle them as adults, when it matters most. It’s so much easier to build adults in their youth than it is to fix them later. I wish parents would nurture their kids, not dictate behavior, that is what creates these lost girls and lost boys. It breaks my heart to think of these kids being lost. We will never know what they could have done for the world. Nova was a ‘Lost Girl’ and, as I think about it, she still may be. Tom and Nova are both broken and damaged souls but together, they are a force, for good, to be reconned with. Thank God they found each other and use their stories, not to glorify those damaged behaviors but to show that anyone, myself included, can survive and conquer the challenges that could lead to destruction. Any way, this is why I am #hangovergang forever 🤙🏽

THIS is exactly why I love this extraordinary women. Nova has been through so much from a young age, but she clearly lives by what doesn't break you, makes you. I would have to agree, it does make you unique, independent and resilient too, and Nova is definitely all of those things and more. You really have to listen to her song Did Your Best. It is about her family. She filmed the video just day’s after her grandmother passed away. So all of the raw emotion you see in that video is completely real. Not acting. It’s pretty heartbreaking and emotional. The first verse in that so g is close to my heart because my son has Cerebral Palsy, mild mental retardation, and Dandy Walker Syndrome. His mind is younger than his body. So I get how she feels. 💔
