OblivionHelena To me, he's completely convinced that there's no hope anymore. The ending of the song is practically suicidal. His conviction isn't really a good thing is this circumstance
@OblivionHelena8 жыл бұрын
Oh of course, it's definitely not a good thing for the character. It's really tragic. I was simply referring to the way the lines were sung and the acting ability of Terrence Mann.
@horseymusiclover5 жыл бұрын
I see it as a declaration that he WILL learn to love her, with the kind of all-or-nothing approach that involves taking a risk on your last hope. I think it's a shift in attitude from the beginning of the song, when he was melancholy and tragic and hopeless. It does sound triumphant, and I think that's intentional as he gathers the resolve to learn to love her.
@deborahhanna66405 жыл бұрын
Ok i can see it with that perspective.
@dclark1420025 жыл бұрын
You really don't love someone until you are ready to die for them. It's why this song is SO MUCH BETTER for this part of this movie than Evermore. If he can't love Belle, than there is no more reason to live...and it would be a worthy death. I would even go so far as to say that Evermore isn't about Belle at all. That if you listen to the words divorced from the context...it could just as easily be sung about the Enchantress...

And I remembered every time I sang that song, I was moved with the lyrics and piano that played with it. And I teared up before the ‘if I can’t love her then who?’ part. And it end up being soo good, that my director cried on my audition for the Beast. And it would go out to be and I quote from my old director ‘The best high school play I’ve ever produced in my life’. Many good memories from that play, which I can always look back and say, ‘I did that’.

You know... After listening to this and Evermore, I really understand why they wrote a new song. This is a VERY theater song. The entire make up of the song was clearly written for performance on a stage. I actually get a pretty strong Phantom of the Opera vibe from it. So it makes sense for them to write a song more meant for a theatrical presence.
@HopelessRomanticEra2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! I love both songs, but Evermore fits a more mature Beast, and the place it comes in just makes sense for a film. I do however HATE that the Live Action doesn't even show Beast's remorse for scaring Belle out of the castle. The musical gives us an entire song about that regret, and how awful he feels, the cartoon shows us a brief moment of him chastising himself, but the live action just cuts away, giving us nothing until he comes to save her. It was so disappointing.

I personally love the score (one of the hardest that we have performed) and we found this playlist to be VERY helpful to us to get an idea of what the singers are doing and our particular instruments, so thanks for posting this :)

Why'd you change the gender pronouns, though? You some kind of homophobe??

I recently worked as Backstage Manager for a production of this musical. The first time I heard this song I thought "This song is so deep into emotion. Perfectly describes how you feel about someone when you have such strong feelings for them." Definitely my favorite of this musical. A shame that it wasn't in the animated film.

Honestly, this is probably one of the best songs in the history of Broadway.

Evermore should be added to the Broadway show, and If I Can't Love Her should be kept as well.

I have been cast for beast and I must say he might be the one of the hardest characters to become. I have been the dentist in the little shop of horrors and he was so much easier then beast. Beast is a very sad hurt character but yet has to be fearsome and Orin (the dentist) was a ladies man and was evil kind of like Gaston. And I hope that I can do it. If anyone has tips I am very willing to try them.

His movement. I have the way to act with specking but with the way he moves I'm not really sure.

I act back and forth between man-like and beast-like depending on the scene. If he's being gentle and kind, stand as if you're a human. However, during ranting scenes where he yells, I tend to stoop or even crouch, and run low to the ground. Carry your arms out, shoulders wide, etc. I hope that this advice may help :) do what's most comfortable for you though.

SGP Productions I have not played Beast, but from productions I have seen, bmanfugitt and you both have great ideas. Find balance in human vs animal movement. And this may just be me but towards where Beast and Belle's feelings blossom and open more (around Something There I think.) he acts a bit nervous when told to do nice things like compliment Belle's dress (think like nervous school boy but not too campy) also But of course play Beast as you see him for me what sold Beast for me on an emotional level was how during Something There he seemed to open up very much because he confided to Belle that he could not read and they relate on how odd and alone both feel but bond like little kids over a book.
