Beauty and the Beast tells the story of the beautiful daughter of a merchant, who is forced to live in a magic castle presided over by a hideous beast. The tale was first published in 1740 in de Villeneuve's "The Young American and Marine Tales" and adapted by Lang for his "Blue Fairy Book" in 1889. It was adapted by Disney for the 1991 movie of the same name.
