I grew up in South Africa and most of my dolls were knockoffs. I remember the basic barbies costing about 80 Rand and my first Monster High doll was 250 Rand, which was considered very expensive at the time. Because of that my first MH doll (first wave Frankie) was kept in really good condition for most of the years that I've had her!

I bought very very cheap Barbie knock-offs for their clothes. They were surprisingly okay in quality, some of them were even really good! Like my furcoats are from knock-offs and they're so fluffy and soft, it's unbelievable! :D

When I was a kid it was quite difficult to buy real Barbie in my city. But there was many pretty dolls still. So I played with those mostly. When I was around 10 my grandma who lived in Moscow got real Barbie (sweetheart Barbie) for my birthday. I was very happy.

The Crystal Star knockoff is actually decent in quality ngl. Gotta give them props for giving the doll an articulated body (Even though it's a Barbie knockoff body), using good fabric for the dress, and giving the doll nice hair despite being nearly bald.

I completely agree... There are even knock-offs who still have bendable rubber legs, packed with several dresses & having prettier face than generic Barbie now. Mattel really downgraded themselves for already 5+ yrs, especially with molded clothes - thats why I buy fakies, so my old Barbies can still have sewn dresses

@@everydaylis I actually have some of these but they aren't really bad they are kinda good because I'm picky they must have at least one good thing about them.I can link a picture if you want to.I have one original Steffi Love doll and one which has an original Barbie body and another head.Two have 3d eyes and BJD sculpt one of them is loosing hair and the elder one is rerooted with yarn.Meanwhile I have two males (3 but one is broken need repair) one is a low Quality Cat Noir (I found him) which I love and a low quality Ladybug which I bought for myself and the second male's right arm half is missing.I have a blonde rip off Barbie I would say but her plastic is very good she has a full head of hair and she is very beautiful and has a movable waist and bendable legs. They are all pretty for me I like them. Again I can link picture if you want to see.

Well if youre not a doll fanatic and you have a child who doesnt really have a long attention span they will play with it and forget about it in a week so its easier to just buy them these dolls. Dolls aren't like food, most people dont care about dolls...the ones who do are passionate about them

LOL That is seriously....it would be a dream come true for me if I was a better artist and able to make doll parts...for the curious , one line would be about Kogals but although they would still be a fashion doll line there would be more of a focus on intelligence and kindness. So they would come not just with fashion but things like computers / laptops and / or books. Like the omg dolls some of them would be music related as well. Then there are the punk lines... Polka dot punks , paisley punks , and pastel punks. 😂 A bunch of horror / Goth girls too...since I hate hard plastic shoes for dolls , there wouldn't be any hard plastic shoes , the shoes and boots being made differently would be part of what sets them apart from other dolls. And there would be more than one body type. All articulated because I hate it when a doll can't really do much posing or sit like a real person. I hope OP comes back and gives us some info on their dream doll lines.

Because in my country original dolls are really expensive which we can't really afford, but good thing I started shopping online and I can find some original affordable dolls, which doesn't come with a box and it's been used but I just boil wash them or something and they look good as new.

As kids my sister and I had some fake Bratz and fake Barbies. I think my parents and other relatives bought them for us not knowing they were fake. The Fake Barbies were completely hollow and you could push dents in their boobs and such 🤣 The fake Bratz were actually quite ok. I had a brunette one which I named "Emily" and unlike real Bratz she had regular feet instead of detachable ones. The other fake Bratz doll I had (and still have) in an American Girls sized doll from the brand "Scampz". She used to be one of my favourite dolls but now I think she looks weird.

You're right, they are not that bad. I have bought fakes in the past because I was a little light on money. They didn't look that bad through the packaging. They were disappointing out of the box, and the kids seemed to realize they were fakes also. Still as play toys, I didn't mind them being mucked up by the kids. My disappointment was eased, a little, by reading the boxes and laughing at the grammar errors and spelling mistakes.

Sometimes these knock-offs are using barbie mattel's factory rejects tho (dress, shoes, etc), I'm from Indonesia, where barbie is manufactured, and the rejects are bound to end up on the cheaper market, these fake dolls producer could've bought the rejects in bulk and make their own rendition, like the sofia in this video

I remeber when I was a kid my parents bought me Barbie dolls because we watched the Barbie films together with my dad and he knew the characters so he could buy those but many parents didn't know the distinction between barbie and knockoffs so they just bought a "barbie doll" (in Hungarian they tend to call every doll barbie) which was a knockoff since they didn't recognise the difference. Idk if many kids cared about the actual brands back then, I did but probably most of them didn't. So probably these brands mainly live from that.

I think I was trying to recapture some of the magic of playing with Barbies as a child. Lets just say that doll did not invoke any fond memories and I should have just bought a real one :)

im from colombia, here the fake dolls, and "chinese dolls" are successful because yes, people can't afford quality dolls. but somenthing happen this cheap dolls are more worth than buy a barbie just because one of this have more accesories and clothes ( yeah with horrible quality sometimes) than a barbie for example, one sofia can cost 10 usd or 15 vs one barbie fashionista of 9.99 usd come here with the price of 20 and i see some barbies of 10 usd cost 30 usd. thats unfair ddkdkdk is just because my country have to much troubles with the taxes and others spooky things

I never wanted 99 cent store or Dollar Tree dolls aka bootleg or budget dolls when i was younger because I knew that they sucked, they were bald, flimsy, and kind of sticky and stinky. One time I gave in and bought a chick from the 99 cent store, she had shoes, she didn't stink and she was a good looking budget doll unlike the others I've seen. I used her as the "teenage baby sitter who is kind of neglectful", I truly loved her until I lost one of her knee length shoes out the window, then she just disappeared out of nowhere xD (Might I add she was bald but I found a way to conceal the baldness via having her hair down or leaving it in her ponytail, she had rubbery legs but her pretty face distracted me from her normal budget doll qualities)

When I was a 6 I bought a 5 action figure set from the swap meet. I think it was a power ranger, superman, Mr incredible, Batman and spiderman. I was so excited when I got back to the hotel room but they legit only lasted five minutes of playing . I was so devastated but looking back im like what did you think was gonna happen .
