Have thoroughly enjoyed the west coast vlogs even though I don’t plan to travel there as of yet!😂🤍Cannot wait for the vlogs of the diving tour you’re doing in Thailand. SUPER jealous of the people that are going to be doing it with you & Tom!🎉

Most inland towns in WA exist mainly due to either farming or mining. Both are very lucrative - anyone working on the mines has a 6 figure salary and I know at least a couple of wheat farmers who are worth about $30 million. Tom Price and Newman are prime examples of mining towns. I don't know if it is the household wealth or assistance from mining companies and the government, but there is clearly a financial incentive for businesses like Coles and Subway to operate up there and sustain the community. The other thing you might not be factoring in is that a lot of the mining towns operate on a fly-in-fly-out basis, so there aren't as many houses as there normally are for the real population in the area. Tom might find this interesting - 20 years ago I had to tour the state to play soccer matches in the evening and coach kids during the day and we played matches in both Tom Price and Newman. There was a Canadian international playing in Newman, who I gather was earning around $400k p.a. I am guessing he had to make a choice at some point between the career/income and the sport. All the people are there for the money, but it is not to say that they don't make the most of it and establish a community with schools, sporting teams, social events etc. After time spent up there you can come back to the coast fairly cashed up. Kalgoorlie is another great example, but instead of mining iron ore, its all about gold.
