In the 1800's, railroads were being built everywhere, connecting small towns to larger towns, eventually connecting to the main railroad lines. The railroads negotiated a right-of-way (easement) with landowners whose land was divided by the railroad. Over time, many of these smaller railroads companies eventually went bankrupt and the rail lines were abandoned. One of the provisions of the easement stated that if the railroad was removed, the land would revert back to the original landowner. In the 1960's, groups started converting these abandoned rail lines for non-motorized traffic including pedestrians, bicycles, horseback riders, skaters, and cross-country skiers. These groups ran into problems when some of the original landowners, whose land was taken for the railroad's use, reclaimed the abandoned right-of-way, in some cases using earthmoving equipment to remove the remnants of the old rail bed, so that the land could be returned for farming use. Sometimes, the landowners agreed to sell the former railbed land to conservancy groups to be used for recreational use. In other cases, the trails had to be relocated, typically following around the edge of the property.

Cool a bike ride, culverts, a dam or two, a really great adventure today Post 10, really great, is there a possibility that you'll be going up to Maine this year for some uncloggings and an update on the deep beaver lake that was threatening the road beside it from last year? You said that you were not going to attempt to try to unclog it because the culvert was too far underwater and a hazard to you if you even tried, I'm curious as to what the Maine DOT has or has not done, thanks Post 10 for all you do to keep roads from washing out and hopefully we'll get to see Ghost 👻 10 soon

You've told us that beavers help raise the groundwater levels. Do you think that the people who decide to relocate beavers have the foresight to put them in areas where higher water levels are sorely needed?
@post.102 жыл бұрын
Yes they usually put them somewhere where they would be helpful, they're definitely doing their job now with our drought, the trees near Beaver ponds are doing a bit better as long as they're not drowning

@post.102 жыл бұрын
@@jeriwollmann7366 I know exactly what you're talking about now, there's only one tree that's blocking the capacity of a culvert, it's another one about 50 ft away that you're thinking of that's crushed. I've been there many times but we're in a drought now so nothing's flowing anymore nothing's getting clogged, that same Culvert is probably featured in about 10 videos
