Thanks for the chuckle about beavers "liking" your channel. You will get to 100,000 subscribers soon! (beavers wish they had laptops!) Not every dam breakdown can be epic but you have plenty of epic collapses. Each dam is constructed by some clever beavers who use the materials at hand and think they can beat the clever dam buster. All the best to you, Mantas, and your family.

Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. When you find a new dam in it's old spot, the beavers are making a statement you must interpret and proceed. Never give in to a beaver, they get the idea eventually.. They don't like building a dam just to see it torn down.

I really like watching your work on these dams. It dorsnt matter to me whether they collapse or not. The water rushing doen the channel is very soothing. And i could tell this was hard work for you as you seemed to slow down about 2/3rds of the way through...just like I do, but forcme at 78 itcinly takes about 20-30 minutes. And this dam was not only an old one and wide and tall, it was also pretty deep from the fronto the back...years of packed mud and sand. Im really glad i subscribed and also joined, i just wish i could afford to send you some real money. You work so.hard

A friend of mine who removes beaver dams here in the US said once they tear down a damn they have to keep coming back once a month to remove the new stuff the beavers keep adding. Once they latch onto an area, they just won't leave. I actually got detailed when I was in the Army to help tear down 3 damns the beavers had made along a series of creeks. We used a machine to tear down the large parts then did what you're doing, by hand, for the rest. The Army hired a trapper to come along and trap the beavers or take them as hides. But he was under orders to kill them. They ended up getting 8 adult and 5 baby beavers out of that area. Then, by the next month, they were back again.

I think these dams are ancient - so the bottom half of the dam is very dense and stable - perhaps it can't be done by hand; but if I may, have you thought of lifting the front edge of the dam, that part of the mound that is 1 or 2 meters back into the pond area - if you can get the bubbles going, then move around to the front of the dam and peel up the 'toe' of the dam. If you can get hydrostatic pressure across the very bottom of these ancient mounds you may just lift the whole thing at once! Love your videos! Thanks for posting!

Not one of your "rollover" dam takedowns but plenty to tear apart. The beavers will build back though. They probably got the water blocked that night! At some point, your friend is going to have to find a way to relocate the beavers. Perhaps you could revisit the location after your friend uses his machinery.

Lots of dams lately so you have been keeping pretty busy. Are you having toctravel far to get so many. I know today's dam was near and a frequent visited one. Get with you hunting friends in a couple of months when the season comes back in to trap them for your friend. It would save some of his farmland This dam had some long limbs in it if you could walk and stomp on it like that. Raining pretty steady also by the look of it How is the new house going BTW? I know you were thinking no fun today because you had to tear this dam apart. Tell the ladies Sveiki and you Labas. BTW I am a little dizzy headed today from my now 2nd bout of Covid19. Luckily I usually get the vaccine but missed it in February. Each time I have gotten it it has been mild due to the vaccines and the antivirals I take due to my old age and other factors and I have a 8 year old grandson that brings every sickness home to me

It was obvious after a while that the density of the sticks in this dam would make it impossible to have a collapse. Even the backside of the dam, which is usually almost entirely mud and maybe grasses and other vegetation, was full of sticks. They are LEARNING how to do this better.

Rapeseed? So it’s for canola oil, right? By the way, two suggestions/questions. Firstly, why toss the branches to the sides? If you threw them behind you and down the channel, won’t the water just wash them away? Secondly, in trouble spots like this, it might be worth it to your friend to install some sort of removable fence. The beavers will build against it, but once you remove the fence the dam will lose lots of its supports, making it easy to roll over. I’ve most seen this with culvert pipes, where it’s really easy to do, but maybe you can develop a solution for channels like this.

You need some dynamite! I was with my grandfather some times when he was removing beaver dams from where he did not want them. You can also put with mesh ("chicken wire") loosely around trees in area where you do not want dams but your trees are just little sticks so probably that would not be worth the labor and materials.
@jsaysyay
@jsaysyay 20 күн бұрын
satisfying either way it's removed. it would be impossible to calculate, but i do wonder how much of a cumulative impact you've had on farming exports in Lithuania, i mean, think about all the fields that were aided in not being too soggy to harvest, or not drowning out the plants, or even to having the adjacent forests not drown so they could stay as a windbreak. either way it's a really nice thing you do with definitely an outsized positive impact
