The reason this show was such a huge success is largely based on the fact that if you grew up in small town suburbia in the 70s, 80's or very early 90's, you probably knew people in REAL LIFE that mirrored the characters in Beavis and Butthead. I had two friends that were almost exactly like those two in many way, save for how they looked. The one kid even laughed like Butthead, and was the alpha to his Beavis, who was less like Beavis than the other kid was like Butthead but still. Plus all the supporting characters in the show could easily fit someone in the town too. Crazy, but Mike Judge hit the nail on the head there, and now all those people have kids of their own too. In the Christmas special, Butt-Head was shown an alternate timeline where he was never born (it was a It's a Wonderful Life parody obviously). In that timeline Beavis became best friends with Steward and helped him out at the homeless shelter. I think Beavis is more or less a drone. He attaches himself to someone and then simple follows their example. That's why I think Butt-Head is a bit more amoral since he got more autonomy than Beavis.
@oddish43524 жыл бұрын
Also, Butt head is visibly upset at seeing Stewart and the principal's lives made better. This suggests a conscious will on his part to inflict maximum suffering. Thus, he deserves a lower spot on the list than Todd (selfish prick) and the arms dealers (in it for the money).

While I can understand your point, blindly following somebody without ever questioning them is a kind of evil in and by itself. It emboldens that leader to become more extreme and even justifies his actions in his mind. Suggesting to play frog baseball is animal cruelty but joining it instead of standing up to him is cowardice, opportunism, lack of moral courage and generally what fuels bigotry, hatred and finally facism. Many of the things Butthead does wouldn't be possible without help or at least he wouldn't dare to do it by himself.

it is quite fascinating that mike judge created 2 shows that couldn't be more different from each other. with king of the hill we have a show that shows how much morality matters to the point that even many of the more evil characters show that they do view morals are important whereas beavis and butthead view the concept of morality as pretty much fruitless to the point that even many of the good characters show that morals are quite irrelevant. it really shows how creative judge is with the concepts of morality and their impacts on life with his cartoon comedy shows

An important thing to note is that in a christmas special for the show, Butthead is brought to a world where he never exists. The interesting thing in this world is that Beavis works at a homeless shelter with Stewart. Beavis seems to be capable of preforming good deeds, but it unfortunately appears that Butthead is the cause of his immoral actions. There's also several instances in the show where Beavis apologizes and wants to help people around him. Everything he does that is bad is almost always him just agreeing or following along with Butthead. I would say this would give Beavis a bit more credit on the good part since his actions are caused purely by how he was raised, and makes Butthead a bit more evil for being extremely manipulative of Beavis and being the reason he does such awful stuff.

"It's a Miserable Life" highlights a couple of things about the two... one, without Buttcrack's influence, Beavis is stupid, but essentially harmless. Second, Butthole is actually upset that people have better lives without him, suggesting an active desire to inflict maximum suffering. Given that Todd, Muddy, and Dallas are essentially selfish and profit oriented, it's arguable that morally, Butt Ooze is at the bottom of the scale. Beavis being higher on the list is a good call. Mainly due to the fact that he's even more naive and stupid than Butthead is. If Beavis even has a lick worry of conscience, Butthead will make sure he's brought back down to his level. Both stupid, butthead is a little more devious. Beavis and butthead amplify each other’s negatives, you can see that in the episode where beavis and butthead never met...or was it butthead never existed I can’t recall but you get what I mean
@oddish43524 жыл бұрын
Butthead never did. It was "It's a Wonderful Life" in reverse. And I think that given that Butthead was actually upset that people had better lives without him, it showed that he is rotten to the core, lower than a jerk like Todd or profiteers like Muddy and Dallas.

Without Butthead's influence, Beavis would still be dumb but kind. In the episodes where he's on his own, he doesn't try to hurt people and even says "thanks" and tries to help them. He's easily influenced. Whereas Butthead is actually a jerk.
@evanwilliams18392 жыл бұрын
To be fair, in one of the Christmas episodes Butthead is shown an alternate reality in which he and Beavis never meet. In this reality Beavis is instead influenced and guided primarily by Stewart, who leads him to do morally righteous things, such as working in a local soup kitchen on Christmas night. This insinuates Beavis is primarily influenced by Butthead and is basically manipulated by peer pressure into following him.

Can you even call "Gets infuriated with Beavis and Butthead" as a character flaw
@kaitiscarlett90223 жыл бұрын
Since you are including the movie, you might have put the old lady (the one voiced by Cloris Leachman) at the good end of the spectrum because she was really nice to Beavis and Butthead throughout the entire movie.

Beavis and Butt-Head are not role models. They’re not even human, they’re cartoons. Some of the things they do would cause a person to get hurt, expelled, arrested, possibly deported. To put it in another way, don’t try this at home.

The demented farmer was also a mall janitor who had to get them out of the fountain, so I take that Halloween episode to be like a SImpons Treehouse of Horror show. But there was also Killer, the escaped serial killer that gave B&B tattoos of butts on their butts.

I've always noticed that the only "good" characters in Beavis and Butt-head were completely clueless/ineffectual. Mr. VanDreisan, Mr. Anderson and Stewart's mom, for example. Everyone else is pretty much a shithead.

I would have swapped Stewart and Van Driessen, and I would have ended this list with Todd and not counted the others after him, but for the most part it was a pretty legit order. Also, I wouldn’t say Daria was the last of the characters who could tolerate Beavis and Butthead, I might say the same for Tom Anderson. They antagonized him a lot and he got pissed at them a lot, and they often butted heads with him (no pun intended), but he’s shown to be able to tolerate them in small doses.

In the Christmas episode It’s A Miserable Life, Charlie the angel shows Butthead what life would be like without him and it shows Beavis being friends with Stuart. Butthead is definitely the bad influence of the 2 😝 Also when they were reading letters on the Christmas special and 3-4 girls wrote in saying Beavis is cute, Butthead got pissed off, threw the letters away and started whipping him! I felt bad for Beavis 😝

There is one instance where you could have gave Coach Buzzcut some credit, he did defend the boys from being harassed from the Candy Sales guy. "I do the ass kicking around here" sure is a blanket statement, but he did stand up for Beavis and Butt-head.
@zeospark97155 жыл бұрын
Honestly I would swap Buzzcut and McVicker's positions. Yeah MiVicker abuses his position a lot but he at least has a reason for his behavior as Beavis and Butthead intentionally make his life hell (just look at the episode Breakdown). Buzzcut, however, hates everything and everyone and has no real reason to be threathening the duo all the time. If you watch the episode Beavis and Butthead Are Dead during Buzzcut's flashbacks, all it shows is him torturing the boys.
@danielshaffer-green56844 жыл бұрын
I disagree: McVicker is worse, because he's the principal, so has more power.
I had a Jr. High teacher a near doppelganger for Mr. Van Driessen. He is a trope of Gen-xican experience, the schoolteacher trapped in the Hippy 60s. People could get a draft deferment going into schoolteaching, so there are more than one of these. The P.E. coach seemed Buzzcutlike in appearance, but was a good person, and ultimately a good & fair person. Mrs. Stevenson has a Minnesota accent you could cut with a knife. This show was just funny AF and touched vaguely familiar things from my youth. Evocative.
