If you see the episode where Todd is drunk he's actually a nice guy who needs help. Alcohol strips away any facade people normally put up so he's actually a nice guy he just needs mental help.

Survivor ultimately started the realty TV craze and that’s when TV took a nosedive.

Reality shows like Survivor, Naked and Afraid, or for those old enough to remember them, Fear Factor, or the short lived and underrated Dog eat Dog were actually really good. I loved them as a kid. I wasn't allowed to watch MTV or Fox as a kid because my parents were very strict about avoiding programs meant for adults. But you're right, and TV in general went downhill. Most of the time I just put the TV on to have noise in the background and watch anime or movies on my phone.
