I know its been awhile but I like to clarify things on the effects and such for everyone. Using Upstart Goblin is always a debatable play here as it gave enough LP to pay many costs. But that is aside from the argument as you could say was worth it. Slifer (like the other Egyptian Gods) has an effect that their summoning cannot be negated. That means nothing can be chained which can negate their summoning. The effect a lot of people seem to debate here is the following sentence "When Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated." This legal reading is that in the same chain a card can not be activated. The key word is "WHEN' specifying a time at which the cards cannot be activated. Utopia's effect would activate in the battle phase when Slifer would declare an attack. Thus, Slifer's attack would indeed be negated. Slifer's 'second mouth' effect as many call it refers only to when a monster is "When a monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent's side of the field in face-up Attack Position: That monster(s) loses 2000 ATK, then if its ATK has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it." So that effect would not have done anything to Utopia but indeed make a comeback by Beavis unlikely but not impossible. Since Stacy was only at 800LP following the Summoning of Slifer any number of spells/traps could be drawn to reduce them to 0 or harder still would be to special summon 2 lvl4 monsters special summoned in def mode and xyz Gagaga Cowboy in def for his eff. That would really give Stacy a surprised look on her face.

+Bucket-Guy Even Slifer's anime effect requires the effect to target and Utopia's effect does not target. One goal could be to get cards out of Stacy's hand as Slifer's attack will go down as a result. The other is use a card that does not target, such as Dark Hole / Raigeki. With the anime effect I'd say getting Cowboy out is too hard because the effect also works on DEF monsters that are summoned. Plus if we give Slifer his anime effect we have to give Number 39 his were he cannot be destroyed by monsters except number monsters. So Beavis could move to DEF and sit on it. In the end it is a video that picks a winner, same as the anime, so the outcome is what it is, but as far are rulings are concerned even using anime effects there should still be one turn left. Otherwise, if this was true strategy as I mentioned I would have never activated Upstart when Stacy only had 600LP as that was what Re-Fusion needed. Anime Effect of Slifer You must offer 3 Tributes to Special Summon this card. The ATK and DEF of this card becomes the number of cards in your hand × 1000. When this card is Special Summoned from the graveyard, it is sent to the Graveyard during the End Phase. While this card is face-up on the field, it cannot be targeted by Spells, Traps, or Monsters that designate a target. Additionally, when your opponent successfully Summons a monster 2000 points is deducted from the Monsters ATK or DEF respective to its position. If this effect reduces the amount to 0 or less the monster is destroyed.

But guess that Stacy's hand may have been with cards like creature swap, which would be essentially bad for beavis, since he doesn't have any cards in his hand right now. Or the easiest solution, which would be, that stacy attacks, then beavis uses Utopia's ability, then Stacey activates enemy controller, tributing slifer to take control of utopia (after learning what it's effect does), then attack with it, using it's own effect to stop the attack, then activating double or nothing (yuma style) to end it. Or she just uses Dian Keto and cancels out almost any chance beavis had to bring her down in 1 turn with effect damage only.

In response to the summon, for example Slifer can't be bottomles trap hole'd. Utopia could have still activated its effect to negate the attack though. Also Mokey Mokey King can't be de-fused into the three fusion materials if King was summoned from the grave, cause in that case King is considered special summoned, not fusion summoned, with no materials it could be broke down to.

Ok to Clarify because clearly several people don't seem to know this even 8 years later, Utopia could negate the attack. It does not say it's untargetable (even though Utopia's effect doesn't target) and the effect to not activate cards or effects is only applied *WHEN* it is summoned. Not for the rest of the turn, not for the rest of the duel, ONLY WHEN IT'S NORMAL SUMMONED. Essentially this means cards like Torrential Tribute, Trap Hole etc can't be used or any cards when it's summoned but mirror force, magic cylinder or in this case, Utopia's ability, can be. It's a very common mistake because Yu-Gi-Oh! is a hard game to understand, however it is very literal. The card says what it does. Literally go one any automated online simulator (aka Edopro, duelingnexus) and try it for yourself. If you don't believe me, well here is Slifer's TCG/OCG effect, word for word on the card: 'Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Normal Summon cannot be negated. When Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the GY. Gains 1000 ATK/DEF for each card in your hand. If a monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent's field in Attack Position: That monster(s) loses 2000 ATK, then if its ATK has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it.' What could have been done afterwards is a different question that no one can answer but the point is Utopia can negate the attack. You people are not judges nor are you providing sources/evidence for your claims

The effects os Slifer to reduce 2000 attack, is only applies with monsters summoned face up after him, and the effect of "when Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated", only is in the moment when is normal summoned, not after. That effect only prevents be negated, or destroyed at the moment of his normal summon. But not more.

I will translate what the reply above meant. When Slifer was summoned, Beavis is already screwed. The reason is that when Slifer is summoned, card effects CANNOT be activated the turn it was summoned. Because of that, Utopia cannot negate.

This duel is amazing but SO MANY MISPLAYS. Utopia’s effect would negate the attack, Slifer only stops effects on its SUMMON. (Like BTHole or Trap Hole, but Mirror Force would infact work.) Also, Beavis’ Megamorph play was not needed, because he’d still have the Megamorph Advantage by equipping it AFTER attacking, and Slifer would’ve had to crash into it to destroy both. Also, seriously you couldn’t have Beavis use Pot of Greed instead of Upstart Goblin???????? I know your inactive and this is probably late, but STILL XD

Does any one of you have any idea how to use a god card. Slifer effect states no card effects takes effect the turn it summoned. Utopia effect is rather meaningless up against the god cards when their first summoned and despite what the opponent could do in which he couldn't Slifer attack on Utopia was legal and fair sense it does say for Slifer effect no card effects are activated the turn it summoned and cannot be destroyed by or targeted by card effects the turn it summoned so it's immortal on the first turn use and Includes monster effects, but I'm not entirely sure about later when targeted or destroyed by card effects while its on the field for Slifer though.I like Slifer the sky dragon because for ever time your opponent normal or special summon any monster the turn it summoned while Slifer on the field is for the known fact that it first weakens that monster by 2000 attk points if it attk is 0 as result it destroyed.
