Thanks for having Jason on your channel. I've watched his videos and he does an excellent job explaining and demonstrating the Mike Austin, Dab Shauger swing. At 69, I needed to pay more attention to his lessons for physical fitness.

Great story from Jacob, I'd seen him before when I was looking at Mike Austin/ Mike Dunaway stuff a few years ago. Ifi'M 65 nearly now and having had a few injuries I'm mortified to be about 40 yards shorter than I was only 18 month ago. Would love to get some of it back because I'm hitting 5woods into some greens that were 8-9 Irons before. I'm hitting more fairways but depressed to be so far back than I was before. Will definitely be trying out the exercises. Thanks Brendon as always for the quality info you provide us all 😁👍

@@JaacobBowden Thanks Jacob for the advice, I'll certainly be consistent although the patience and safety are not my strong points 😊 Really inspired by your journey, there must have been so many "doubters" at the beginning? Nothing I like better than seeing people like that proved wrong. Wishing you all the best and will be having a look at your website👍

@@johnholmes6 Glad to help and humbled to inspire! I'm actually in the process of working on a memoir now. As of today, I've got about 100k words or 180 pages written. The successes are more well marketed and publicized, but the entire journey has been filled with doubters and the like, which I get into in the book. I don't have a timeline on finishing, but I'm close. Keep an eye out for it when it comes out.

@@daryllneuburger4946 my hairline was receding somewhat as I got older...and then it thinned and greyed quite a bit as well the year my dad died in 2022. I don't know what it will do in the future, but in the interim I wanted to grow it out and enjoy it while it's here. I was also curious how long it would grow naturally. I think it's pretty well capped out now. I feel like it looks different up close and, not that it changes who I am or what I think about myself, I do get lots of compliments on it, which is fun. In these videos I just clipped the sides and top back to keep it out of my face, but it does give it the "Kentucky waterfall" look that someone mentioned in the comments on one of these videos haha

Yeah, some of the things he gleaned on to are getting validated with tech and data now. I don't know if you've seen it, but I've got a Mike Austin video I bootstrapped together in 2012 over on my channel. Swing Man Golf has gone through multiple iterations, 2007-2013 was the original site. Then I worked with a marketing company from about 2013-2019 and gave up the reins a bit. I then tried to bring it back to something that felt more authentic...and also to a holding pattern until I could take it to the next level. Over the last 4 years, I've tried multiple pitches to get some financing to do really high end production quality. Historically, everything was always cobbled together on virtually no budget, which frustrated me because I really appreciate high quality work. So, I've wanted to do something more elevated...kind of the whole, if a job is worth doing it's worth doing right. But for some reason or another, none of that has come together, which is frustrating. In the last 10 months, I've been picking away at a memoir. I'm not sure when I'll wrap that, but hopefully soon. I've also stayed off social for the most part, particularly after the companies went public about 10 years ago, which has been both to my benefit and also detriment. I've been thinking about changing my tune on that though, just doing the best I can with what circumstances allow, even if what I really want to do is something top notch. With all the stuff I've learned, it'd be a shame for it all not to get put out there. Hope that helps provide some context.

Just imagine how far Mike Dunaway would have hit his driver if he did the training or used todays modern drivers and balls. Back in his day with his 43" Callaway big bertha driver and whatever balls he was using then, he was easily hitting it 390 and that was every time in a row.
@JaacobBowden
@JaacobBowden 5 ай бұрын
I'm with you and would love to see him hit in his prime with modern equipment and launch monitors! Same with Mike Austin, Count Yogi, and all those other greats of the past! I was lucky to hit balls side-by-side with Dunaway when I was 27/28 while Austin, Phil Reed, and Dan Shauger looked on with a crowd of people. Dunaway was about 20 years older than me, about my age now. I was about a club longer that day, but I always wished I could've hit with him when he was at his longest. Still, he had perhaps the most effortless and balanced looking power swing I've ever seen in person...and I've seen a lot of both professional and amateur swings! His strike was so consistently around the sweet spot...and all the way through the bag he had a super tight shot dispersion window. I didn't see him remotely come close to missing a shot in the session. It was incredibly impressive. I also wonder if he did other things to work on his speed and distance aside from just technique. I wish I would've asked. His forearms were logs like John Daly's. Personally, I think a lot of people assumed my distance was technique alone, but I also worked at it mentally, with creatine supplementation, equipment fitting (this was the pre-Trackman days), and gym work. It wasn't just one magic thing.

@@JaacobBowden HiJaacob, Yes that must have been great to be there watching Mike Dunaway, I watched his video on him hitting drives at some course and the green was 387yds and he hit the green 10/15 times, he said he would have done better but he was tired from a long day of making a video, haha, WOW. His swing was so effortless. I have watched a number of your older videos when you were a lot younger, haha, with Dan. I have been on the driving many times with Jason Zuback(we both went to the same out of the way range to practice) and that guy could sure send a ball a long way, I guess that's why he was 6 time champ and a nice guy to top it off. I'm 67 now and my speed is around 100(I use the same blue monitor you show on this video), but I'll have to try to get it higher, haha, don't know if I really need to but what the hell. Cheers and thanks for answering my post.

@@wally6193 yeah, it was a treat to hit with Dunaway in person. I wish the video of it would surface...and that we would've had a launch monitor. Very cool you've been on the driving range with Jason Zuback many times! I've spoken with him on the phone for an hour or so during an interview we did for Swing Man Golf. I enjoyed it. I don't recall ever being in the same long drive event as him when I competed in 2003, 2006, and 2007, so I never saw him hit in person. He was a few years before me and was probably already exempt while I had to go through qualifying. In the Pinnacle Distance Challenge that I won in 2003, he was on that team, but wasn't at my venue that day. Dan Boever, who I beat, and I believe Mike Moulton and Brian Nash were the other Pinnacle guys from the team there that day. Jason was a pharmacist, which was interestingly what I did in college. That understanding of the body surely helped him a lot in his training! It did for me!

@@JaacobBowden I think it had to be early 2000's for a couple of years where I kept running into him. Then a few years later he put on a hitting demo at a oil/gas golf tournament I was in. It was funny, because I had my favorite spot on that range, which just happened to be his favorite spot too. I will admit I did change spots a couple of times so he could have it, haha. I remember once saying "so you've won 5 times", he was VERY quick to correct me "that was 6 times", lol. Yes he was a pharmacist at the time, maybe he had some secret juice to help him. I say that because this guy(Jason) was built like a Franco Colombo(former body building champ)-like a brick shit house, haha. Yes I heard you saying you had a background in the same field. I didn't know you competed in the LD or that you won, nice win. Yes Jason was a member of the Pinnacle team, which wasn't hard to miss, he used to bring a couple of those big plastic containers (which were for milk cartoons) full of brand new Pinnacle balls. He'd drive them all past the end of the range into the bushes. I recall asking if he's going to go pick them all up, "lol, they're free was his reply". Cheers.

@@wally6193 great stories! Yeah, I did the World Long Drive Championship qualifying in 2003, 2006, and 2007. Won a number of qualifiers along with that Pinnacle Distance Challenge. Longest drive was 421, which set the venue record at the time. Had club head speeds in the mid 140s, which was fast enough to win at the time. One time I got offered something along the lines of the juice in the Phoenix area from another long driver. I don't know how pervasive it was overall, but some guys were using for sure. I kept what I did limited to protein shakes and creatine. Hitting long drives is fun and modern data shows it correlates with lower scores, even at the tour level. But the sport of long drive itself ultimately wasn't my vibe...too much testosterone. Regular golf was more for me with the solitude, practice, walking, nature, and calm. I was more interested in a tour career. I still follow the sport peripherally, though!
