I’m a roller derby player. @@thehobbyisttries practice, a good coach, well fitted skates
@keiramckenzie83298 ай бұрын
@@thehobbyisttries For recreational skating, having skates slightly too small/big won’t be that much of a problem, but if we’re taking about competitive level skating then here’s the rundown. TL;DR, Too big = Too loose, no support Too small = HURTS. Your average higher level figure skates are gonna be made of a faux leather, which is very moldable. Upon purchase, the skates might be placed in a small oven type box, heating the leather. They then get worn by the skater for a few minutes while still warm (best feeling ever) in order to ensure that they are perfectly molded to that specific skater. This is what they mean by ‘well fitted’ I’m assuming. Now, I don’t have personal experience with skates being too big, but if the skates are too big, some pretty noticeable issues would occur 1. They wouldn’t be tight enough. Figure skates need to be very tight, especially around the ankles. For competitive skaters who are landing jumps this is crucial; the support on the ankles is absolutely essential when landing jumps, lest the ankle collapses under the stress of landing and undergoes a not-so-pretty sprain or even a fracture. 2. It would honestly just feel awkward. This is kind of piggybacking off of the ‘too loose’ statement previously but it’s worth mentioning. Figure skates are pretty heavy and undeniably unnatural for the feet. Essentially new skates feel like you’re wearing bricks for shoes, and that’s when they ARE perfectly fitted. So having loose, too-big skates would just make it way too awkward to jump, spin, or even just skate regularly. On the contrary, the skates being too small is something I do have personal experience with. During the Covid lockdown I was off the ice for about 5 months, and during this time my feet had grown and I didn’t realize. Now as I mentioned earlier, leather is very moldable and that goes both ways. Without constant use, the leather will shrink and tighten slightly. So when I got back on the ice and felt pain, I wasn’t necessarily surprised since I was essentially breaking them in all over again. But as the months went on the pain got worse and worse. I was near tears every time I skated, I had numb toes getting off the ice, and during the last couple weeks that I endured this I was taking Ibuprofen every single time I skated; which did nothing to help. Once I finally went to my skate guy, I found out I was wearing skates nearly 2 sizes too small. No wonder I was in so much agony! I got my skates replaced with a higher level model and was on my merry way. (typically higher level just means more padding, so the skates break down slower and help maintain support for landing jumps. Plus it’s comfier!) haven’t had the pain since!

The reason we wear baggy clothing while skating is to protect our skin. It prevents scrapes and rashes from sliding against cement. If you take care of your skin, its not a problem, but wearing this little while skating is just impractical no matter your skill level.

She did she just didn't explain, so I will So basically, she always tries to land on her hand first to protect the rest of her body Think of how cats always land on their paws so they won't get hurt she trained herself to have this reaction when she falls
@LBLBLBLBLBLBLBLBLBLB8 ай бұрын
The key is to widen your landing surface area and go with the momentum of the fall. Just landing on your hands you'll break your wrists, land on your butt and you'll break a hip. She hits the ground with her forearms to spread the surface area. She leans back a bit so that she can let the momentum roll her from her hips to her back if she's going too fast to stop. Finally she brings her chin forward or back depending on the direction of the fall so that she doesn't whip her head into the concrete. I learned this in judo so that my sparring partners and I can throw each other at the ground at high speeds without getting hurt.

No kidding! My mom had an unexpected fall...tripped over a curb she didnt see it blended in with sidewalk..it was the type where she and other vehicles were parked behind. Front of office building. Anyways...she had no time to react.. so she wasnt able to try and catch herself... hit her nose really bad across the bridge...needed stitches, and caused black eyes, also chipped a tooth that was one side of an anchor for her partial denture and later it broke completely...so she now doesnt have 3 teeth on that side because the tooth couldnt be saved. So shes looking at thousands for implants... which she cant do that before getting a sinus lift because or how low her sinus cavities sit. But she also cant do that surgery because she had auto immune diseases..and messing with the sinus cavities is a rough procedure and healing, infections..etc. so her body couldnt handle that. So yea..if she would have caught herself and broken a wrist... she could have had that reset, put a cast on and had almost 100% chance of it healing without her auto immune disease interfearing or causing a bad indection. PLUS she would have her teeth. Instead if she was able health whys..shed be spending 1.000s on implants..bud sadly her 2 options are; deal with no teeth..or consider having a bunch of teeth pulled on other side.. to be able to get a top denture. 🤦♀️😞😭 so yea....im sorry your beter off anytime to try to catch yourself when falling. It wouldnt be instinct for our bodies to do, if not necessary. 🤷♀️
