It’s so refreshing to hear someone on this platform talking about being more realistic with their time, energy and resources. It is an excellent life decision to stop consuming books in masse, when it serves no purpose, gives no joy or there is no significant memory of the experience. This exercise is necessary. Thank you for putting this out, I hope it inspires others to do the same.

I used to be SOO bad at DNF'ing books when I was a teenager. I would literally push through not only the book, but the entire series! I thought I'd be missing out if I DNF'd, or that it might get better. As an adult I pretty much threw that out the window. I DNF the moment I find no interest or feel like I'm forcing myself through it. It's so much more refreshing. There's way too many books out there to read to push through one you don't enjoy.
@rebelbelle13882 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why people feel bad when they DNF books and series. Your time is valuable, and there are so many great books out there. If you aren't enjoying something, you should be able to walk away and not look back. It's so freeing! Not everything is meant for everyone, and that's totally ok.

I used to feel guilty to DNF a book or series. But realizing I would have no problem quitting something else I wasn't enjoying, or had other things I wanted to do or get to more, I got over it. Plus as you said, life is too short. There is enough in our lives we have to do and not enjoy, it doesn't make sense to choose to do something we are not enjoying.

Yes, I am one of those people who have guilt for dnfing! I just unhauled a series that I was planning to finish and never did. I can't be bothered to reread 7 books just to finish the last 3. They are going to my sister who loves the series. I gave them to my mom to take to my sister's house today when she goes to her house, but my mom actually kept them at her house. She wants to read them first and then give them to my sister. So they are already being put to good use instead of collecting dust.💛📚

The latest update on A Sleight of Shadows is that it's coming out in Spring 2023. Kat Howard posted that she sent a revised draft to her editor the other day. In my opinion, the Demon Cycle is all bad. The first book was the best and it's all downhill from there. I kept going to book 4 even though I should have stopped earlier. And even now I keep thinking about finishing it off 😬

You don't need to reread the Last Wish to continue. With blood of elves starts the main story arc. But it's not a series I enjoyed too much, so don't know if i would recommend continuing at all

the black dagger brotherhood series is actually a huge universe with like 6 sub-series. there is actually a short story you should read first before moving on to the next book. story of a son is the title. also some books are ebook books only and one is audible exclusive. I think the whole as of right now is 44 books.

I used to feel guilty about dnfing series and books in general, usually cause I feared I would miss out on something good, like the book or series might still turn around for me... but with time I realized it actually made me feel better :) dnfing definitely takes the pressure off and my mental health thanked me for it :) now I dnf fairly quickly, because I can pretty quickly see if I enjoy the writing style and the story and I have learned from multiple experiences that if I don't really love a book immediately or I am not even slightly interested, it won't change in time enough for me to invest more of my time into it :) even if it's a beloved and super popular book or series :) but I definitely remember the beginning of that journey so just wanted to say I am super proud of how many series you managed to cut from your list during this attempt :) and don't worry, it does gets easier with time and with each dnf decision you manage to make :) wishing you all the best :)

I have it in a stack to finish this year and I told myself if I don't read it, then I'm unhauling books two and three and just keeping the first one.
