The Bechstein Classic 124 is one of the best modern pianos available, with a rich warm tone and refined touch.

Dear Mr. Roberts. I really respect your work by sharing your wisdom and experience in This KZbin. Although I really do not see any point by comparing proceed in China Feurich 122 Universal with fully German made C. Bechstein Premium piano to Yamaha U3H late '70 piano. Tree of those upright pianos represent huge difference technology approach, strongly caused both by historical period and economic value. Please forgive me for this comparison but It's very like comparing Chinese made Volvo with Rolls Royce Phantom with Toyota Corolla form year 1985. Three of those cars can drive but, mostly thats it.

Well, yes and no. I completely agree with your view that the comparison is a bit weird for the reasons you give, but in the end, with a piano it comes down to two things: the action and the sound. The action on the Bechstein should be far superior to the other two, which is worth pointing out if you want to play more than just chromatic scales. With the tone, here the interesting bit starts. The sound quality of this video is not good enough to really tell, but the question is: how good are Chinese pianos today? 15 years ago, they were almost unplayable. That has changed. How do they compare against a top notch German artisan piano and a middle-of-the-road used Yamaha U 3? Are the difference mind-blowing, clearly audiable or just nuanced? My problem with the video is that I can neither properly hear the sound of the instruments nor what he says.

Bechstein is more expensive. If you're going to compare a Yamaha a better representation for Yamaha is the SE or SU7 premium uprights, otherwise, it's in a totally different market. Bechstein's Hoffmann might be a more suitable comparison but I think they still run more expensive than the U Yamaha series. For the money, the Fuerich is fine and the Yamaha is not German and won't sound German or European unless you get the SE. For the type of all-round playing and consistency over years, the Yamaha is pretty much the standard for high-quality but semi-affordable uprights in the U. If you want cheap, then the B series is Yamaha's budget line. The Bechstein is in the luxury class of pianos, it more is cross shopped against the Bosendorfer or Bluthners.

This piano has the gorgeously clear and lovely tone that I appreciate so much in Bluethner pianos. This must be just about the most beautiful sounding upright piano of the current century!

Excellent video, as always. I'm curious--what's your opinion on modern Bechstein uprights like this one compared to similar modern uprights from other top makes like Blüthner or Bösendorfer?

Thank you for your kind words. Modern Bosendorfer uprights are usually very fine pianos in my opinion, generally louder; I've only come across the 130cm in the UK. Modern Bluthner uprights are not common in the UK and I have to admit I've not dealt with any so don't have a clear opinion. Marcus

I've recently gone for a Feurich 122 after years of a Yamaha U3. Taking some getting used to but I'm enjoying it. Mine's a new 2019, so I'll be interested to see how it feels after bedding in properly. How long do you recommend before it's first tune?

Yamaha has always been too bright and percussive for my taste. I actually prefer the Feurich's softer tone, but both it and theBechstein are sounding great.

We very much like Bechstein pianos in terms of richness of tone, precision of touch and the beautiful rosewood cabinets in which they are housed. ER

Yamaha SE is not "bright and percussive." It's kind of an unfair generalization about Yamaha. Some, maybe most, Yamahas you encounter may be like that. But there are others that aren't and some are quite different in character. Now that Yamaha develops with Bosendorfer, their sound has changed in some of the grands. Just to add, the Yamaha SE is designed with European technicians and uses European materials and is designed for the European market and only available in Europe. More and more, Yamaha is using European materials on their pianos.

Hi, I'm a pianist and I'm very interested in acquiring a hybrid piano, nowadays there a few options Yamaha NU 1, Casio GP 300 and 500, Alpha Piano etc... and there Schulze Pollmann the "ilpiano", the thing is there no promotional video what so ever in KZbin about it, for Us Pianist's We need to at the very list to listen and visualize, also is a very helpful tool to gather a few information about the features of the "ilpiano", features like mechanic, action, sound, fell, touched, etc... can You Roberts Piano make a video about it... Your Sincerely, Márcio Jardim
