Beck - I Only Have Eyes For You (cover)

"I Only Have Eyes For You" is a classic American song, a standard written in 1934 by Harry Warren and Al Dubin and most famously recorded by the Flamingos in 1959. And now a whole host of indie artists have recorded covers of the song for artist Doug Aitken's installation "Song 1," which comes to Washington, D.C.'s Hirshhorn Museum 5/11. Former Stereogum dude and current Pitchfork editor Brandon Stosuy helped to organize the event, which will involve projections on the museum's walls. Nailed it. Someone mentioned below, it's the haunting sound that conveys the yearning. This is THE song for THE love of your life. It's dreamy, like the Flamingos version and Art Garfunkel's, which I think is supposed to mimic that moment that all time slows down, and stops when you are in the presence of the love of your life....Love Beck. Always have, but he just took it to another level. Love it.

This is the sweetest song, I love this song so much but the flamingo's, flamingos and the complexions, and beck take the prize. The Flamingo's interpretation was so dreamy and beautiful, and I don't think that Beck's version takes away from that, it adds a more jazz club kind of feel to it, they are both such great versions I don't think I am going to go to bed tonight, just going to listen to this song.

What an unbelievable tone quality in the upper range of his voice in this song cover! I have loved many, but I have only ever experienced the sensation described here twice, a kind of feverish but relaxed tunnel vision. I didn't have any interest in anyone else. I felt not the provocation of lust by anyone other than them. This song is not a mere metaphor. There is an actual phenomenon of being completely swept off your feet, to the point where all temptation disappears and your mind, body, and heart are totally invested in one person. It didn't last, and I wouldn't repeat it, but wow, what a feeling!

Eric Juel It cannot be found on CD. From what I understand, an artist named Doug Aitken did a multimedia art display in which he cast projections on the entire outside surface of a cylindrical museum (Hirshhorn Museum in Washington DC). To accompany the projections, he had many artists do a version of this song, and this is just Beck's version for that art display. Search for "Doug Aitken Song 1" for the art display. Cheers!
