Listening to this again a few years later. Beck has *extensive* musical knowledge - traditional Western orchestral instruments, Alpine horns, a yodeler (!), Chinese instruments, a gospel choir... you don't just say "hey, let's do something different", you have to THINK about this. Aside from the fact it's an amazing cover, it showcases his deep knowledge and his respect for music.

+arfer After Bowie's death, Beck told Rolling Stone magazine he'd never heard back from Bowie about this performance, but that before it came out Bowie had tweeted to his fans that it was forthcoming, I think because Beck asked his permission to use the song. Bowie has said he wished he'd asked Curt Cobain why he was inspired to record The Man Who Sold the World. So maybe Bowie just didn't go out of his way to comment to other artists about their covers of his songs. I want to believe he heard and loved it.

It was surreal and insane trying to get that many people to play together at the same time. I never heard anything from him about it, but I hope that it didnt make him cringe or anything. I know he was particular, and its always strange to hear one of your songs covered. It can be a great thing or it could be a terrible thing." I'm sure he loved it. I mean, how couldn't you? Listening to Beck & co. recreating the masterpiece by the late great David Bowie, I am reminded as to why we as a human species are put on earth and why we come in all shape and sizes. Every musicians that is in this recording bring in their own small piece of sound to the overall composition. Every sound is different & unique, yet when played together, they create a harmonic soundscape that is by far greater than the sum of its parts. An analogous as to why it is important to respect one another, regardless of race, religion, political stance, background, social status and the likes. Only by working together and respecting one another can these individual noises can come together and create music. #sayingnotoracism

How did I just now hear this? I’ve been waiting for this gift of sound and vision for almost a decade. The climax felt like a taste of what heaven will sound like.

This is easily one of the most moving musical performances I have seen. And I have seen some S**T! We are lucky to be alive at the same time as Beck. He truly is one of the great musical talents; not ahead of his time, but perfect right in it. I take him for granted sometimes, I plan on remedying that tomorrow.

Could you imagine this as the Suberbowl halftime show? Who would be talking about the game afterwards?
@oldham428 жыл бұрын
+Wanno Lumpkiin Beck should do this again for the halftime show next week...would be better than anything coldplay does, that's for sure.

+Jordan O (Ponydigger9) hey mr., Coldplay isn't bad. They're one of the few group of musicians (along with beck) that makes good music that's not about sex and drugs and has meaning. They're just as good as beck. You should see Chris Martin, he plays a mean piano.

+Jordan O (Ponydigger9) you should maybe listen to Coldplay's older stuff, it's less pop oriented if that's what turns you off about them

Supposingly no one of the musicians and persons that organized it reads this, and of course just saying thank you is not enough, but thank you very much and hello again from my side too. This song is medicine with good earphones. In case someone that I know reads this, heartly greetings to all of them and of course in first place to Mister David and Mister Bear. Hope everyone is doing good

Beck is a modern-day David Bowie. Couldn't be better demonstrated than by this performance.

There will never be another David Bowie. The vocal virtuosity alone makes it an absurd comparison.
