I would say try using the knife with and without the brass plugs. I thought it was too subtle to make any difference, but after hours of doing many different types of tasks, subtlety becomes obvious. With the plugs in (my preference), the knife has a neutral balance, so if you are holding it level and you release your grip, the knife sits in your hand -- without the plugs, let go and the tip falls forward. Also, if i'm carrying a lot of gear, every ounce counts, and i take the plugs out for the minuscule weight savings. So what, right? when i'm working fast and hard, the knife is just planted in your hand -- the balance does make a difference. So i think the plug design is brilliant.

I'm very happy that you reviewed this Becker/Ritter RSK MK2 Knife. I did not know such a knife existed. I want it for my collection as a knife enthusiast. Other than Becker I'm a big, big fan of both TOPS and ESEE knives and am aware of the quality steel produced by Rowen. I, too, would prefer micarta scales over the grivory, but that can be easily remedied with after market scales - though, admittedly, at a cost. As to the design of the knife's blade, I have always been a big fan of the drop point. One of the things that draws me to this knife. The argument that there are better knives available at the same price range or even lower such as, for example, the TOPS Silent Hero is indeed a fair argument and one to be taken seriously. A good review.

I like it, I like it even more knowing it's a Rowen blade. Not a fan of nylon sheaths and certainly not those handle scales. I'm a big ESEE fan, I'd take an ESEE over any of the Beckers any day. Great review as always!

How about the Ontario SP43 gen2 ....I know it doesn't have removable scales but price wise and the awesome 5160steel is an awesome deal. The price point an these blades are awesome and I know you really liked the sp51, I have the SP47 saber grind and I love it & am really thinking of getting that big 51. Anyways so many blades so little money is what I say LOL...IMHO the Ontario SP line sure gets overlooked alot in the under $100 range.

Some nice design elements there, but the price is not competitive, particularly when the Ontario SP series offers similar quality at less than half price. In fact, this looks a lot like a shorter, more carefully manufactured Ontario SP43.

...and 10... In fact there's only about 1/2" difference in length between the MkII and the BK10 Crewman. But the Ritter has a more aggressive tip geometry and will out-stab and slice the BK10. I live the BK10, especially the Kabar version, but i just don't use it if i have the 12 with me - it just does everything a little better than the 10. Not to take anything from the other Beckers, i still sometimes use the BK2 (again Kabar > Camillus) and my Camillus BK9, but the MkII is my go-to Becker for most outdoor adventuring.
@dexwithers9 жыл бұрын
The Handle Scales are not the same as the Ka-Bar Becker's. The one's that come on the RSK MK2 are the same as the old Camillus Becker's. They are a lot more blocky than the newer Ka-Bar Scales. Great knife and one of my favorites for this size blade.
@gideonstactical9 жыл бұрын
??? I have the MK2 and BK2 in front of me and they look and feel the same.
@dexwithers9 жыл бұрын
+gideonstactical Unless your BK-2 is a Camillus version or the Owner of the RSK MK2 switched out the Scales to the Ka-Bar version, then they are different. You will be able to tell because there is more material in the back of the handle that fills the hand. For me personally, I do not care for the Camillus style since my hands are medium/large. The More rounded Ka-Bar version feel better to me. Especially the Micarta. I have owned 4 MK-2's and have too many Becker's to count, both Ka-Bar and Camillus, so I know for sure there is a difference. haha. And I do agree 100% with you that not having the swedge is a huge plus! I much prefer this over the BK-7 for a woods knife.

WoW the Rodent 6, Yippee I have one too, but I had mine modified, I had the blade thinned down and the top gaurd taken off, I think it slices a little better, it is a very tactical robust knife a tank, but I like my bush that's why I had mine modified, Also E B broke my heart, why couldn't they use the 1095 CroVan that's what I'm talking about, then it would be more like the old Camillus Becker's. Oh thumb ramps rock once you know how to use it. I also like the Grivory material. if the handle look's like the BK'S maybe the after market micarta will fit.

+Nice Tele I am judging as a survival knife, and never referred to it as a camp knife. I was comparing it to two other great "survival knives," the ESEE6 and Silent Hero. gideonstactical LOVE your channel!!!!! BUT, I don't think you were quite 100% fair with the review. Maybe you were 90% fair lol.. Because it was a review not a comparison video even though I understand why you were comparing it. I think you should have just noted the fact that the sheath isn't that great and the handles could be made out of a better material ie: micarta/G-10 but just focus more on the actual knife because most people these days or at least a big majority of people these days, get a custom kydex sheath made anyway for their knives. I have an esee 6 and I had a kydex sheath made for it because I think the esee factory plastic sheath is weak and not very durable. I feel like you let the handles and sheath kill the actual focus of the knife review. Yes we all know that the becker sheaths are crap and the handles are slick. Just like the esee sheaths are not as good as kydex and the handles are a little blocky. But blade vs blade I personally like both but prefer the doug ritter rsk. Sorry for the long post haha. I still love your channel!!!

MrDavo1959 said "Agree on those brass plugs....Why?" I get it. It's subtle, but after a few hours of use, the neutral balance makes for less fatigue than without the plugs in. If i'm using it for less than a half-hour, i hardly notice the difference. So if you don't care, or if you don't notice a difference, you can take them out and save a few ounces, and the chopping characteristics will be minutely enhanced. So why? I say "why not"?

Truth be told, i have not used my BK7 since i got the BK12/ MkII. i prefer the MkII blade geometry, it stabs and slices better than the BK7, 2 or 10 with its higher saber grind, better steel (i have the Camillus BK7), better handle scales (i put custom GG&G scales on the 12 👌🏿), i like the gray color of the coating more, etc. etc. The BK12/ MkII and the Kabar BK5 are the blades i use the most. Sometimes the BK2 (I like the Kabar version much better than the Camillus) and BK9, but the MkII is my go-to Becker. It just sits in the sweet spot in terms of its size & geometry. Outstanding knife. Just my 2¢...

Oh Yeah Aaron, I heard Ethan Becker once say that the Cold Steel Master Hunter was one of the best designs C.S. made, maybe that's why Becker maybe had something to do with it ?, I heard so many great things about the CarbonV model the same steel as the 1095 CroVan that's what I'm talking about, well I missed that one but I have the S.R.K., O.D.A. and (2) Recon Scout's in CarbonV one I use the other one is virgin, not ever been sharpened or carried. Anyhow I have to apologize to Mr. Lynn Thompson I bashed him for being cheap and not interested in his company since he already made his fortune, but lately he's making some great knives in some great steels, like my Kukuri Plus in O-1, than he just made a integral knife where the blade and steel are made out of the same steel and he's using 52100 one of my Fav's Steels, now he made a Master Hunter in 3V Simply TiT's now that's what I'm talking about, Thanx Mr. Thompson.

I just came across this video and I must say your comparison between this knife and other Becker's is asinine! I own this knife and several other Becker BK's and I've noticed absolutely no difference in edge retention between the 1095 with Rowan HT and standard 1095cv that kabar uses. The sheath that you said was better quality is also crap because it is the exact same sheath used with all bk's. Finally, comparing Becker's made by kabar with the former made versions and saying the Camillus was better quality is a joke. My first Becker was a Camillus bk7 and I can with absolute certainty that the kabar version is much better. Smh...
@patriotgunner6 жыл бұрын
Johnny Ra I agree 100% with everything you just said! I noticed the same things when I watched the video. The sheath is the exact same sheath the other Beckers come in but sized to fit the rsk. Plus I can't tell a nickel difference in heat treat between my bk7 and esee 6. And also, geez I didn't know so many people would get so offended and butt hurt over an extra $25 or $30 more than what people "think" it should cost. If $25 or so bothers them that bad then maybe they can't afford it anyway. I don't like the cheap plastic sheath the esee 6 comes with either. It is NOT Kydex but cheap plastic and not durable so I don't even count the esee sheath as better because I bought a premium custom kydex sheath from grizzly outdoors for my esee 6 and it is FAR superior to the crappy thin plastic one that everybody thinks is so good. It's really shitty honestly. I don't discredit the rsk because of the sheath because I always buy a custom kydex sheath for all of my fixed blade knives anyway. People are so dumb. They would have a heart attack if they saw some prices on my Busse Combat knives lol. Buy a rsk knife, get a custom kydex sheath made and get some aftermarket g-10 or micarta handles for it and you got a kick ass little package that'll last your whole life if you take care of it. -Rant over-

You see I had my Rod Garcia Skookum Bush Tool made a 1/4" smaller so I could have better control, the edge is curved more than most of my other bushcraft knives, so I did comparisons, the straight edge are good for longer strokes, like making a Paddle the long parts on it, but for carving and slicing a curve edge is what I'm talking about. and than Thanx to you Aaron I got the Potbelly and I took my suspicious to tge Potbelly will it carve good too, Lo and Behold it did, my Potbelly is now one of my Fav's that's not a Swampie. One more note Aaron, they say the Butcher Knife WAS the Frontiersman Bush Craft Knife, and the Potbelly has that Butcher Knife Characteristic, and did it look's alot like a Nessmuk Knife on Steriods how sweet it is. I love it, anyhow I'm anxious to see your review on the Swamp Rat Rodent 6. again for the $$$ it's IMHO the best Bang for tge $$$ period

So you'd recommend the potbelly? I've been eyeing one off for a while and don't really need it... But... Ya know, knives are good haha.

I wouldn't buy it just bc it is a "knifeworks.com exclusive". They have really lowered their standards when it comes to friendliness & cooperation with walk-ins/frequent customers this year. I quit purchasing from them. They are impatient & act pissed off when you walk in with a list of knives for them to pull for u to pick from. They don't wanna work it seems...

That makes me sad.

gideonstactical Yes, it hurt me for Roger to say what he did. I thought he was a good guy. I have always been excited & friendly to them when I used to go. That happened in February. I used to talk them up here on the Tube, but no more. I still talk u up lol in my vids! You were the first I subscribed to Aaron. God Bless brother.

I'll go out on a limb and say you're paying at least $25 for Doug Ritter's name on the knife.
