If those guys on the Tank Masters channel saw that tank, they'd replace it. At least it's not buried like the ones Tank Masters removes in New York state. Good to see you got him going, nice job.

I had a customer that put 70% type rubbing alcohol in the tank. Every summer I'd get a no hot water call. I'd change the nozzle and it was ok. But I could figure out the smell,not like oil.the 3rd summer call the lady said she was putting in rubbing alcohol, which is 30% water! I stopped and told her your creating the problem. Now we put hot shot. It's and outside thank. Drove me nuts. Alert now!

Regarding the conversation on the rv, propane has a boiling point of -44 degrees Fahrenheit, 20 degree weather will not affect gas pressure.

we had an old tank with lots of sludge and water condensation in tank we tried oil treatment it did nothing there was way too many years of sludge and such in tank we switched to gas and took it out must have been an inch of sludge in 50 year old tank
@robertp7209 Жыл бұрын
@@michaela1655 just a question, couldn’t you pull a plug out or take the gauge out, sent a 1 inch pipe or EMT ( the largest size to fit) hooked up to a pump down there along the bottom and suck out whatever is down there, the sludge. There is a few inches of height below the takeoff, so it’s not a tremendous volume involved. Besides don’t have to get it all out, just enough.

Jack the end of that tank up and put in 1" couplings, from this angle it looks like the pitch is going down to the outlet, I always like to draw off the top with a twin line and no need for a tiger loop. Propane stops flowing at -44 degrees
@ranger178 Жыл бұрын
you start to lose pressure with propane the colder it gets since you are trying to evaporate the propane it gets slower the colder it is we used to use torches and the tank would start to freeze up and loose pressure if we drew too much gas

propane stops working past a certain temperature, basically liquefies and can overpressure the heater/regulator
@RayRay-nb7tn Жыл бұрын
So what do they do with the big tanks outside a house 30 ft away to keep it from this issue?
@AnonymaxUK Жыл бұрын
@@RayRay-nb7tn The temperature is -44 F when it liquifies, so it isn't much of an issue. Heat pumps start to lose their efficiency at 40F and below 25F it's using so much energy to keep it going, it's not very viable.
@DF-zp1os Жыл бұрын
-44f and the liquid won't produce gas, it will just be liquid. However when it's that cold the tanks are half buried in snow which is warmer and if it's really a concern power blankets are available.

Steve, did you install the diesel heater yet? I would consider replacing the fuel lines inside of the case of that as it’s pretty crappy. I use two of them to heat my 960sq ft garage. The rigid nylon fuel line seems to be the best to use.

Commercial HVAC tech of 44 years a lil advice…if you are over 40 yrs old it can be tough i see alot of guys spend $35000 on school to be an apprentice in Ct only to give up because of heavy lugging up and down ladders for $17 bucks per hr. 1st yr Mass licensing is a bit easier so depends where you work also

You will be back on that boiler again. The tank has sludge in it, and will keep plugging up the filter until he does something with the tank to correct the problem.

Especially when the burner is on when a delivery takes place. Need to keep heat off an hour or so for the shet in tank to settle.

In cases like that using a sludge treatment next couple deliveries will help by dissolving sludge and water but it doesn't happen overnight

We used to throw rubbing alcohol in the tank to keep it from sluggish oil clogging the filter, nozzle, and strainer.
I think that most of the sludge comes from the delivery trucks. If the truck tank is never cleaned, it must be full of sludge, and that ends up in customer's oil tanks. The trucks don't have a filter at the end of their pump hose, they just pump the unfiltered contents into the tanks.
