I'm a slow learner. 2 pair of Thursdays that I couldn't get to fit. Gave them both away. Got the Dowler and the Elliott Balmoral. Most comfortable and best looking boots I have ever worn! Get them now because it takes some time for them to be made. Then you will have them for Fall and Winter. Nice review.

Ha, yes I totally drank a big cup. After two pair I refuse to drink anymore. But, these are incredible. I’ve got no complaints… other than that they didn’t send me more.

I'm thinking plenty of folks started with Thursdays and branched out to other brands; Captain and Stompers for me and also bought four shoe trees (because they're the only place I've found boot-sized cedar shoe trees). Now have Nick's Tactical, JK 300X and Beckett Simonon Dowler (roughout) with a Silva on order. Next will be the Grant Stone Field boot in saddle tan (because I wanted a nicer moc toe boot).

I recommend conditioning before wearing them. Mine were so dry they almost cracked.

I’ve found that when a Chelsea has a really tight goring around the ankle, it causes problems with the leather heel cover that covers the foam. Really tight chelsea goring will cause my foot to have the leather heel cover roll at the end toward the midfoot, dragging it from the adhesive causing it to slowly come off.

Really like the look of your Silva boots. How are the EVA soles doing? I really wear my boots hard at the heels and fear that these would wear out quickly.

They’re doing well. To be honest, I only wear them for special occasions when the weather is bad… so not often lol

I have a pair of Silvas (in black roughout) on order (this morning actually). I've always wanted something I I can just slip on to take out the trash to get the newspaper and not look like I'm wearing clogs doing it.

Not to be a nudge but I'm pretty sure the heel leather is *veg(etable) tanned*, not vegan (which is usually just a fancy term for pleather and would probably make for a very poor heel construction). Regardless - I ordered a pair a few weeks ago, and I'm eagerly awaiting them. I've got a pair of their wholecut oxfords and a couple pairs of their sneakers, and they're the best shoes I've owned.

I had the same issue with Thursday boots with the fitting I'm also gonna give my boots away worn them 3 times and my feet keeps hurting.

I have Thursdays Chelsea and Beckett Silva , I use Thursday for more casual and Beckett for more a bit stylish :)

Hi! I have a question. I am planning on moving to a more snowy, raining metropolitan area. I was thinking about buying a pair of sylva boots for that purpose since I need somewhat dressier footwear but still need something robust for the winter. How thick are these boots compaired to a thursday cavalier? How warm are the silvas with a pair of thick socks? Thank you!!!

That’s a great question! The cavaliers have zero traction on any surface (mainly due to the type of sole). They also have no waterproofing and I wouldn’t be surprised if the sizing is a bit off (at least that’s been my experience). However, they are the cheaper option and TBC does ship pretty quickly. The Silva boots from Beckett Simonon are $100 more than the cavaliers. But, the chunky lug outsole is great for wet/snowy slippery surfaces or even off the sidewalks and in the mountains. They do have a water repellent coating and waterproof side gussets. They’re far more comfortable straight out of the box and seem to me to have a much higher build quality. I would say that between the two boots, with a good pair of merino wool socks, you will keep your feet more warm, more dry, and better styled in the Silva boots. But, it always comes down to personal preference and budget.

Not sure if you've purchased anything yet, but one thing to consider is that the Blake stitch construction on Beckett Simonons isn't terribly waterproof, and since it involves an exposed channel around the edge of the sole (see 1:34 for a closeup of the sole), it's *possible* that in a very moist environment, especially in slushy snow, moisture may wick up into the boot through the stitching. Rose Anvil addresses this in their breakdown of the Dowler boots. That said, Beckett Simonon makes some very comfy footwear.
