Beckett Simonon is a company I'm long overdue in reviewing. When it comes to the direct to consumer model, they're pioneering the made to order system much like Gustin in California. This means lower prices if you're willing to wait a bit, and I argue that with a purchase like shoes it pays to do your homework. Before you buy a pair of Thursday Boots, Taft Shoes, Merrmin, or Johnston and Murphy, you need to check these out- they punch well above their weight!

I ordered a pair of Fonseca in bordeaux for both dress and dress-casual wear. The boots are both beautiful and comfortable, and I would absolutely consider ordering again. Delivery was about ten weeks, and they do a nice job of keeping you updated on progress. I’m definitely impressed.

In 2014, I switched from Bostonian to Johnston and Murphy with my shoe collection because Bostonian stopped producing quality American-made shoes. Still, in 2018, Johnston and Murphy fell to the same and closed their last American shoe factory. Recently when needing new shoes moved over to Allen Edmonds for their well-built shoes and Goodyear welt. I purchased 4 pairs this year and was quite impressed, but I needed to wait until they were on sale for a reasonable price. I am looking at Beckett Simonon online for a possible pair of shoes for the fall; my only concern is that not all of them offer a leather sole. I do not prefer the rubber sole, but I know some do. I wish they offered the option of different soles. I am also in New England but wear galoshes or winter boots when needed for inclement weather concerns. Good review. I just came across your channel by accident.

Great review! I got my first pair of Beckett Simonons a couple of months ago and I couldn't be more happy. And I took them to my local cobbler and had sole protectors put on to deal with the issue of moisture seeping in. I have another pair on the way now and can see myself buying even more from them.

I just purchased their Burgundy (had a different color name actually but very close) Double Monk because I was wanting to start my dress shoe collection but am not a big fan of black. Loved the look! I just hope the size I got is right on point. Awesome review...just late to the party again.

If you haven't heard of Berwick already, i think it's a brand worth checking out. They're made in Spain and some of them use a JR sole for about 300usd. I haven't seen much if any reviews of them anywhere.

I think the wholecuts look great. I have never owned a good pair of wholecuts but assume that the downside is there will be more noticeable creases compared to a cap toe.

Shoe trees and resting for at least 24 hours in between wears and of course keeping hydrated and polished well will help drastically with that. Little extra Saphir Renovateur and cream polish in vamp area where creasing occurs will help also.

Carl Murawski Had to do due diligence with my first pair of wholecuts and has worked quite well. I do this with all but my suede shoes, which are much easier to care for haha. Brush off and waterproof spray from Saphir and golden

I don't understand how I just saw this video after following you for a while and after buying Beckett Simonon for a while. I have several pairs and I really enjoy them. In my opinion they are pretty damn close to the best value out there. I also really enjoy their backpack and their weekender bag is not too shabby either (I'm just not the biggest fan of the pebbled leather). Their customer service is great and I really like how they made a special order for me when I requested. I'm really considering making a trip to Colombia just visit their factory. I also really enjoy how they send emails providing order updates and telling stories about their employees.

Great video! I recently picked up a very lightly used pair of Allen Edmonds 5th Ave in Walnut for $126 off eBay. I am so happy with the purchase!!! I wear a 10B, so I've got narrow feet and brands like Becket Simonon just don't fit because they don't offer different widths. The Thursday Boots shoes I bought just don't fit, but I can't return them at this point...

I have two pairs of used AE as well, I love them, very high quality shoes. One very lightly used First Avenue boots, one very used but well-kept pair of loafers with a gorgeous oxbood/bordeaux color that gets so many compliments, I think I paid $25 for them - just needed cleaning and polishing.

Great review, Carl. Looks like a great shoe. One point I noticed is that the stitches are not in a deep groove, similar to Allen Edmonds, which helps protect the stitches. Still, they are half the price of the AE. What do you think?

EscobarStyle when I bought new sneakers from greats I also had a squeaking noise, I found that if you wear them and rub them back and forth on concrete will get rid of the squeaking noise, although I doubt this would be good for a leather sole

Sometimes the squeak comes from an air pocket between the layers. A cobbler can squeeze it out.

One concern I have about their shoes is that there shoes and boots tend to have a flat rubber or leather sole. Seems like they'd be very slippery in wet and esp snowy weather. Did you find this to be true? Another great vid.

So I just bought a pair of Thursday boots scouts, and I guess they are okay. They kinda let down because of how much “loose grain” there is. It’s just very wrinkly. It’s to the point where if you look just a little harder you’ll notice the boots are not the same color, and boy does that bother me. Is there a way treat loose grain, and do you recommend using dye on the boots? And I also noticed that the little metal things inside the heel on the rubber outsole are causing little dents that Aline with them inside the shoe at the heel. Did this happen to you.. I hope that makes sense. Did you experience any of these things?

Carl Murawski I love them. I got these and their tan double monks. I was really impressed with the quality and comfort out of the box. I’ve had them for a couple of months now and they’re wearing in nicely without too much creasing. I also bought a couple pairs of Thursday’s new shoe line. Lots of great options out there.

Another great review Carl! Not the biggest fan of wholecuts personally but every each to their own. Personally I think Meermin are good at the price point. With Allen Edmonds increasing their prices I think Carmina are better as they offer sleeker designs in the AE price point.

They’ve held up much better than Paul Evans and about the same as Taft. I’d still recommend them for sure.

I think they're pretty on par with Taft, you don't have some of the wild combinations Taft offers but if you're looking for something a little more common they're very much on the same level.

I really like your creative intro, very nice and tastefully done. Buying shoes online is a rather disappointing experience for me. I have a hard foot to fit and I almost need to see and try a pair of shoes on before making the purchase. Most companies are very accommodating at returning shoes which show no signs of wear or use. I don't enjoy the hassle of having to box up and then take them to a UPS pickup point for a return. Maybe I should be glad instead that they offer this option. But I will check out this shoe company and see what they have. Keep up the creative work.

Thats cute, you think I plan purchases. I've 4 suits and two pair of dress shoes because they where on the discount rack. Cheapest suit to date, $37 for a $400 suit, and my $54 for a $1000 suit. They have back stock and marketing costs so they charge more for their shoes than otherwise. Beckett Simonon would charge 300 if they did the same. So you get more bang for buck. I love Thursday, but if they ran on the same system, their stuff would run probably 50 dollars cheaper.

I just ordered the Meermin Wholecut Oxfords in black. They are just a bit more $, they are GYW vs Blake stitch. The Meermin are primarily made in China and then soled in Spain. I understand the Becketts are made to standard in China.

Agree 100% on the silly objections to Blake stitched shoes. It should be quite obvious that if you are so uncaring about your investment in your shoes that you need them to be sloshing through water then you should not be complaining as your shoes are going to turn to shit real fast any way ...no matter the welt. Personally, I'm buying a collection of B&S shoes and adding two pair of Chukka boots for the occasions where I have to step out into the elements. The idea is to never wear the more formal investments in a situation where they are challenged. Think of your shoes as Furniture for your feet....are you going to let your furniture out in the rain and snow? Of course not...well what about the Chukka's? Well they are much better built for the elements...and if conditioned regularly after their interaction with the elements they can have a long life. Protect your foot furniture investments...all of them and you can have them for decades to come.
