So great to see some absolute legends from the 90's paying tribute to Becks & what he has done for the game. As a MUFC fan since the Cantona days the memories this has brought back alongside Becks' Netflix doc has beought me to tears a few times. I always rated him & thought the stick he & Victoria got was out of order. Thanks for the greatest years of MUFC history fellas. Plus Wrighty & Carra for being top blokes 😂

Love Ted Beckham, as a red, acknowledging Roy’s sacrifice against Juventus in the semi final in ‘99, it absolutely broke my heart that he didn’t get to play in the final and it was his sacrifice and the way he played for the rest of that game that put United into the final. My grandad Jack O’ Sullivan was a massive United fan who also knew Roy from around Cork (my Grandparents lived in Mayfield) and from the time I entered this world he insisted I would be a red too and he sadly died 2 years before they won the treble. Watching the documentary and that final moment in 99 made me cry again thinking back to when I was 16 watching it all unfold on the tv and feeling so sad that he never got to witness that history 😢. I also loved seeing Roy stick up for Becks the way he did in 98….they don’t make em like they did in the 90’s….Cantona….Irwin….my own hero Keano, Becks and the class of 92 ❤ Made my childhood a stellar one. Loved the episode 🙏🏻

Love Becks. I remember that time after the world cup, as a Utd fan, the club felt like one massive family. Nobody liked us coz we were winning everything in sight, then the Becks incident was further fuel on the fire, we felt so much united on and off the pitch as a club. Hard to say that about us nowadays but it shows how far we have fallen from our hey days but it shows by the leaders and charachters we had in the team. Love Keanes leadership, absolute class and its great seeing Becks speak highly of him and vice versa. Great podcast btw, no forced laughter and click bait trolling.

For some reason I've always wanted to watch Keane and Becks in an interview together Keane has always defended Beckhams lifestyle publically because as he put it he backed it up on the training pitch and field. Becks gives Keane credit for the way he ran the dressing room setting high standards for the team (something all his previous teammates state) But the cherry on top and my favourite part was Beckhams Dad giving Keane praise and its probably the only time you see Keane that happy to receive it. Probably because he got it when it was Ted's time to praise Beckham but thats how good Keane was for Man Utd! Beckham's 99 season didnt deserve runner up for top player honors in my opinion. And I think Beckhams greatest attribute will forever be the fact that fame never stopped him giving his all to the game. It never turned him into a bad person. And most importantly the family man he has become when so many high profile celebrity couples dont make it Becks and Posh seemed of all of them the most likely to end in divorce was just so high profiled you almost had to assume it was for fame but it never was it was for love and still is and what a great story they are. If they go to their graves still together would have to be the most successfully high profile romance in history.

14:30 some of the things that happened in the aftermath of the 98 World Cup shows how you how fragile the modern footballer's mentality really is. Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho got dropped by the manager of their club because of under-performance and criticized by the fans and they go and hide behind "mental health". While David Beckham had effigies burnt in England because he got provoked by Diego Simeone to kick him, resulting in a red card for England in a Round of 16 tie vs Argentina, he got no sympathy from any other club in England as well. And he was villain number 1 for something that was really unfair to him. And then lets not forget, the best player at that time, Ronaldo, got an epileptic fit hours before kick-off of the World Cup final, persuaded his coach Mario Zagallo even though he was not fit and Brazil got beaten 3-0. Mind you, Ronaldo carried an average Brazil team to the final. And what does he get after that final loss? Speculations of match fixing, NIKE contract money forcing him to play even though he was not fit and a meeting with the Brazilian Congress to explain his situation. He could have lost his life. Can you imagine that? The best player in the world at that time could have lost his life and yet people showed empathy at all. In his documentary, The Phenomenon on DAZN, he stated that football was gladiatorial back in the day and there were no facilities for mental help at all. And now players get upset because the manager criticized him in the public.
@unforg1v3n Жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you've said, aside from Brazil being average in '98.
@tashrif46 Жыл бұрын
@unforg1v3n well they were. Every time they faced European opposition in that World Cup, they struggled. They barely beat Scotland 2-1 with an own goal, lost to Norway in the group stages, had an almighty struggle against Denmark where they won 3-2 and Ronaldo had to put in one of the best performances of all time against Netherlands in the semi final to barely win on penalties. And France duly put them to the sword in the final. They had a midfield of Dunga who was 35 years old and Cesar Sampaio who were playing in the J League. And this sentiment was also shared by Tim Vickery in both the Ronaldo documentary and an Off the Ball segment he did.
