I was born in Beckley. After my Dad died my Mom remarried & we moved to Ohio. We spent almost every summer with my Dads family in West Virginia. Best life ever in those mountains, rivers & streams. Imagine riding in the back of a pickup truck, arms resting on the top cab hanging on through those winding roads. Almost Heaven 😊

I really enjoyed this video. I used to visit West Virginia for a month every other year. But now no car of money to do so, so I miss West Virginia. I have to depend on videos like yours to get my West Virginia fix. I especially like the fact your drove through neighborhoods.

I have never been to WV, but I really want to go .... and I've considered WV as a new home .... the city of Beckley, in particular, as it has all the 'amenities' I'd like to find (meaning stores, restaurants, and banks, basically) in my next home .... and the scenery is beautiful!

Great drive down memory lane. I grew up in Beckley, I moved away 44 years ago. Robert C Byrd drive was still Valley Drive, the justice center in downtown was a GC Murphy store. A lot has changed but so much has stayed the same. You drove by my house on Harper Rd just down from the hospital, which at the time was thought of as a new hospital. Thanks for the ride, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Most all of my family was born and/or raised here. I haven’t been there since 2015. Most of the family moved away. It’s sad that there aren’t jobs and that most of the land still belongs to big coal so you can’t buy it. It’s a beautiful place with beautiful people. I miss it! ❤

Drove by Crescent Rd. (where I went thru 3rd grade) , Woodlawn Ave. (where I lived in a garage apt when I was 5 or so), First Baptist Church (where I was baptized), Williams Street (where I was born), what used to be Murphys (where I sang Jingle Bells ? over the store intercom while visiting Santa) and Johnstown Road (on the way to my Granny's house on Orchard Ave). Moved away in 1960.

I have long been researching Beckley as a possible future home .... and I was stunned to find out, recently, that the population is only 16,700! .... Rarely will you, for instance, find an Olive Garden in a city that 'small' .... *** but anyway, I'd love to get out of blue state Illinois and move to a red state with gorgeous scenery, moutains, a lot of rain, and all my fave restaurants .....

I know this might be unrelated, but what’s the most boring stretch of road you’ve ever been on?
@MileageMikeTravels3 жыл бұрын
Off the top of my head I would say I-77 between Charlotte and Columbia. I-40 between OKC and Albuquerque is up there too. Also I-10/I-20 from El Paso to Dallas ranks high on the boring list.
@foodreviewguy653 жыл бұрын
@@MileageMikeTravels I haven’t traveled either of those. For me it would be the Florida Turnpike from Kissimmee to Fort Pierce. There are no exits for 40-50 miles in this stretch, so if you accidentally go the wrong way, it’ll take you like an hour and a half to get back to where you were. And there is NOTHING to see. There are no hills or anything, and it’s just extremely boring terrain. Alligator Alley is up there as well, but it’s slightly shorter and isn’t quite as desolate. Although I’d say any interstate in florida is extremely boring when you’re not in a big city. Very long, flat, and straight, and nothing to see. Lots of traffic as well

@w-josh2 жыл бұрын
@@Bornjamerican24 West Virginia is the most mountainous state in the U.S. Mountainous roads means steep grades and very curvy, windy roads. The worst time to drive in the mountains is when weather is horrible or it is night time. Charleston isn't as mountainous or Huntington

No opportunity for young people. Other then WVU Tech which is wonderful. However once they graduate students leave. Hardly any decent housing. Not many jobs at all. Beckley sadly has fallen victim to the opioid epidemic x10 for over 15 years. No population growth. I’m not saying it’s the worst place but it’s definitely not a place I’d recommend if your looking for opportunities in life. I live uptown where most of all the buildings are crumbling. It has a few little shops. But that’s it . Recently King Tut closed. I love my sleepy little town. I’ll be here till the day I die. Maybe one day someone or something will save our City. It has great potential.
