As well as 4.97%. I particularly like the flexibility. You can put money in and take it out whenever you like. Also the usage of your ISA allowance goes down when you make a withdrawal

7% regular saver is effectively 3.5% over the 12 months. The other accounts offer better rates if you have savings.
@samjga
@samjga 17 күн бұрын
If you leave the non-saved money in your current account for the period then this is true however if its either money you haven't earned yet or just sits in a normal savings account for that period then it's much higher. If for example, the money was in t212 at 4.9% and you gradually drip fed it over your average interest rate would be around 5.9%
@jimdavies
@jimdavies 17 күн бұрын
@@samjgayou can only save using the regular amount for 12 months. You can't add money to it. The max you get for 12 months is £136.50 then it stops. Works out at just over 3.5%

Hi @jimdavies I actually have this account and use it to cycle my savings through. For the time period they let you have it in there it is the best rate (%) that you can find but as you said, the issue is that they don't let you have it in there the full period. What I'm trying to say is that by combining it with another savings account can be what makes this lucrative for those already with savings
@deltaechomusicnh555
@deltaechomusicnh555 16 күн бұрын
@jimdavies The point he made was to drip feed into it monthly. I.e you initially keep the money in a high paying savings account like Trading 212 Cash ISA. And then every month, you take out say £300 and put it into the 7% interest account to maximise gains.
@ed-vx4pu
@ed-vx4pu 16 күн бұрын
But you'll also be earning interest from your other account so if you drop feed it, you'll get more then just letting it akl sit in an easy access account, that's what he's saying.

QUESTION.. .. is it safe having saving apps on your phone bearing in mind that phones are the easiest thing to loose and break...surly a saving app would be best on a phone at home in a safe place without a sim in. doesn't feel safe having a beer in the pub with my phone next to my pint having an app on it with 20k in it.

I read an article from YBS that states there are 13 million current accounts in UK with over £5,000.00. The average value of these accounts is £23,700. How can people be so stupid? The onus on Be Clever with your cash & MSE should be to force people to change. I have £139 in 3 current accounts. I am earning 5.60% across a range of ISA's, Reg Savers,Fixed Rate Bonds & Current Accounts. Why can we not educate the financially illiterate to do the same?

Also some of these new 'pop up' banks aren't real banks and say they hold your cash outside their institution. But ask yourself, do they really have your cash and what benefit are they gaining from holding it in another entity??? BEFORE DOING ANYTHING BASED ON THE 'APPEARANCE' OF A GOOD RATE, 'THINK' ABOUT THE WHAT IF'S! Take responsibility, ask the right questions and most of all Protect Yourself because no one else will do it.

Premium bonds are ok if you're willing not to earn the sane as you would in interest in an isa. This year I got about 2.5% return. Last year I got 7% (included a £1,000 win in one month). They're ok but quite often you get no prize even with a significant sum of money in them. That said, you could get lucky :)

My personal opinion is withdraw anything in excess of 5k and put into another savings account. Anything above 5k currently earns 1.5% so you may aswell put it into an account earning atleast 4%. I believe you still need to deposit atleast £1 per month to meet the criteria of a 'regular saver'🤔 I'm not certain though.

What sort of emergen🎉cy fund should a pensioner have ?. All the calculations are based on living expenses if you lose your job, but that doesn't apply if you are a pensioner . Arguably enough to tide you over should a technical problem delays your pension ( logically actual cash ) and a current account balance that has " padding" to cover your direct debited bills, but what about other " events") Synching funds should cover most things, but maybe I am missing something here. Last year I had dental bills, and drain/ driveway emergency repairs which cleared out my savings, and am presently trying to build the pot up again. I know we will need a replacement car in the next few years. It doesn't have to be new, but needs to be reasonably reliable ( presently got a 16 yr old workhorse that won't last much longer) We also need to replace our decking before it gets dangerous, as it provides access to part of the house that includes utility room where the washing machine has to go as kitchen and bathroom are tiny. I don't want to borrow if possible, but no idea yet if I can get enough together for these, up front. Any thoughts ? ( uk pensioner presently 10 months from paid off mortgage) Thanks
