it would be more effective to do a “lunge block” with the opposite arm while the mirroring arm stays high in an effective shot blocking position. so on a right handed player i would have my left arm up in a blocking position and i would use my right arm to knock down the chest or extend for the ball effectively turning my back to the defender while being heavy on the strong side. This is more effective when it comes to protecting yourself from a strong side turn and gives you the ability to have a shot blocking arm up through the entire encounter. Hope this helps.

“effectively turning my back to the offensive player**”

I appreciate your response however I do disagree. When closing out a player with the ball I always want the defender to have their hips up and to to be squared up with the offensive player. This will allow them to not get hooked as well as be prepared to move back and laterally if the offense passes and cuts. Thanks for watching and for your response.

Just wondering, if I reach for the other person’s bicep and do end up hitting it will that be a foul or would I be able to swim forward to get the ball?
@ShaquaticsNet
@ShaquaticsNet 3 жыл бұрын
If the offensive player is in the act of passing the ball then hitting the bicep probably won't be a foul. I say probably because water polo referees can be inconsistent. If the offensive player does not have the ball in their hand and you push on their arm, that would be a foul.

I play water polo in Bulgaria where the "lunge block" is a penalty shootout so my best option is either go for the ball or block the ball

How is that a penalty shot if you are in between your man and the goal? There’s no probable goal situation. That’s strange but you have to adjust to the referees.

What if you're on offence and the recipient of a lunge block. What are ways to deal with lunge blocks / prevent lunge blocks when having the ball?
@ShaquaticsNet
@ShaquaticsNet 2 жыл бұрын
Watch our pressure passing video, we talk about going up and into the defense, that’s the first thing you need to do. You need the momentum going against the defense. If the defender is pushing the offensive player, it makes it easier to lunge block. Second, the offensive player needs a fast, strong and sustained step out. Step out and keep traveling until you release the ball, do not step out, stop and then pass. That’s covered in the video as well. Good luck!

When playing defense, should I keep my eye on the player or the ball after they throw the ball behind me
@ShaquaticsNet
@ShaquaticsNet 2 жыл бұрын
This is in our defense video so you can check that out for further clarification. You want to have a hand on the defensive player and your head on a swivel back and forth, man to ball.

Would doing a lunge block to an opponents bicep before a goal shot violate the new rules regarding “probable goals”
@ShaquaticsNet
@ShaquaticsNet 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question, the way I understand it, the defender should be fine as long as he is in between his man and the goal. If the offensive player had inside water and you grabbed the bicep then the new rule would apply, assuming the offensive player was in a scoring position.

@@ShaquaticsNet oh that makes sense! We are learning stuff like that at club, thanks for the clarification! Great video :)
