Being one who records whilst they work and edits in the twilight hours. I know the difficulties and how much effort goes into making these videos. Material like this is undervalued. Education has changed so much with KZbin. Society are gaining the equivalent of a KZbin plumbing degree. It's good when it's used for something positive like making individuals better engineers. Onsite experience is vital as well as real qualifications. Yet this media stream and experience passed on is helping nations strive to better engineering standards. It would have been a game changer if I had some of these videos when I initially qualified as a plumber 13 years ago. There was hardly anything like this to watch. It's great that the information is there for those that are thirsty to grow in their knowledge of the trade.

Iam a gas engineer, in my aera I can't give work away that iam unable to do , no one needs any more You can work 40 hours a week for good money to 80 hour weeks for insane figures up to you. There is so much work even with the amount of people doing it . I follow viva and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them

Hi there. I had a question….. since the government is banning gas from 2025, dont you think gas engineers will be out of jobs? Or will they be installing hobs only. Im asking because I’m interested in doing a gas course but I’m worried that I won’t be having a job in a few years and my course will go to waste.

The government is not banning gas from 2025. In the same way there was never a shortage of petrol. Natural gas will be heating our homes for decades to come. It will be blended with Hydrogen and the blend with hydrogen will increase until we are on 100 % hydrogen. This is the plan. Gas is not being banned at all, what might happen is the government might insist on only hydrogen ready boilers will be installed from 2025. There are huge opportunities within the gas industry. Come and visit, have a cuppa tea and I can explain the future of gas properly.

It depends what you would like to achieve. To take the gas engineering course you don’t need any formal qualifications.

I am a manager at a care home doing 33k a year, I am sick of the industry and now 29 years old i am ready for something new, I have done construction work from 13 to 18 with my dad and I know alot, i am not the avarage apprentice who doesnt even know how to use tools, I have done lots of work in my own house and family houses, what is the best way to enter in the market for a job as a gas safe engineer? best schools to be certified at? I am really looking into this now. Please help :(

Yes of course Joel, British Gas have taken several of our newly qualified trainees on in recent months. Most find there way into full time work, often employed as improves gaining more experience whilst receiving salaries of £28k with British Gas.

What is the starting salary for a gas engineer based on your programme? I always search this question up on google but results vary? So what is the starting salary for a newly qualified engineer and what is the maximum salary for a senior/experienced engineer? Also is there a demand for gas engineers atm

There is no hard and fast rule for the starting salary for newly qualified engineers. On average I would say between £24 - £28k per year.

Toby came to Viva Training Academy for the gas engineering course. He had no previous experience of hands-on experience. After completing the MLP gas course and his portfolio, he went on to pass his exams and practical assessment with flying colours. He now works for a company in Manchester repairing boilers on a very good salary, including a van and fuel card.

Toby, fantastic series of videos, with an insight to the world of the gas engineer. I was really taken by the views of going to school get a job in an office and everything would be ok. Very sadly due to perhaps snobbery, ignorance or people now being more into IT, the trades have been looked down apon for so many years. I hope that your career is going well for you; a couple of questions. Is it hard on the body? Could someone who is in there 60s train? What is your thoughts on this. Thank you for sharing the videos

We do have people 60 years and over who retrain to be gas engineers. There are various disciplines within the engineering industry. Service and repair work is the lightest discipline suitable for all ages and would suit more senior engineers.

@@vivatrainingUK ​ I work in IT and make decent money as a contractor in London (although it took a long while to get where I am and the job can be long hours). However I feel the job is under threat from AI in the next 5-6 years. I have a friend who is a heating engineer and he has taken me out on a couple of jobs and I am definitely interested in making the switch. Like you he recommends service and repair work as a starter but that would mean a money drop for me atm. He charges 80/hour in London including the drive to the job! You are right the trades are massively undersold and they don't have to worry about competition from AI. I probably would have chosen the trades if I had my time over

In your 60s, you could probably train, but would you pass? How's your driving? How's your stamina? Can you work all day, stay focused and not screw up? A lot of the work is driving, from place to place. Just because you can, doesnt mean, you should.

We currently only run courses in Halifax, West Yorkshire. They are of such a high standard we have trainees attend from all over the country. There are some good, well priced hotels near by.

The course runs across a 26 weeks period, with 28 days in centre or less with some online learning. And some time building your portfolio with gas engineers in the field. Being a gas engineer can be physically demanding at times. Providing you work safely and wear the appropriate PPE you can have a long and successful career in the gas industry.

Its a shame to hear you have not found any opportunities for yourself in such a buoyant industry! If you consider 20 of my trainees have been given full-time jobs in the last 5 weeks there is no lack of opportunities with the right support and more importantly a good attitude. All of these trainees have been offered full-time gas engineering jobs on successful completion of the gas course. I have a national company requesting I put there job opportunities on my job board. I have several companies all looking to take my trainees out on portfolio placements because they need more gas engineers and they will employ my trainees if they are a good fit. There is so much exciting stuff happening in the gas industry and renewables industries there as never been a better time to get involved, start a highly rewarding career and work towards leaving the world for our children and our children's children.

Be careful when deciding to become a gas engineer, some lazy gas engineers that work for some of the bigger companies will try their hardest to black list you by framing you, be warned!
