Thank you David, started playing when I was 12 years old, old school rock 'n roll, played by ear, my mom one day made a statement to play with emotion and that has always stuck with me. I always gravitated toward rhythm guitar And dug around in each cord treating each string as an individual voicing like an individual group of singers But always with an emotional element. I'm now 68 years old And for the last month or so I've been watching your videos And have stepped back and literally leaped forward to a completely new level of expression that I have always told people that the music comes from your heart and the guitar is an instrument to funnel it through. What you are sharing on your channel David is very inspirational and solid, and your ability to slow things down and your explanations and how to listen to your inner voice I truly believe that it is unlocking a talent that lives within each individual guitarist. Thank you brother for taking the time, because time is a very precious gift we sometimes forget to use to our benefit, keep it slow, play and whisper from your heart, and let the music that lives within each of us leap forward.

Dude what the ACTUAL FUCK?! That was a HUGE lesson. Much more of a "guru" or a spiritual guide to guitar music than average youtube scale 1+1=2 lessons out there. Your content is *great* :D

Out of all the guitar tutorials I’ve watched over the years regarding soloing. This had to be the most well explained video of all. Phrasing, lazy playing like Hendrix, non-mechanical, telling a story. Man… This is exactly what I need to add to my playing. Thank you sir for the master lesson!

This is the only channel that talks about incorporating your emotion and heart a ton in playing, which I believe is equally important I guess more than learning fancy techniques... Hehehe...

Hi David... Thank you! I have played around with guitar for about 42 years, and I must say... You have hit the nail on the head with your approach. You are a master at explaining the exact meaning of all these concepts! I honestly want to thank you. I so enjoy listening to your "lessons" and am relearning what I could never put words to, which is so refreshing! Please, keep up your appreciated work.

Wow! Such a unique lesson on YT!! Nobody mentioned on YT that the heart needs to take it slow! Thanks, David for the different mindset a guitarist must have while playing licks/soloing.

More like this. Explain theory with feeling. You're an expert in both. Amazing for you to translate one into the other. Then I can learn the feeling now, and grow the technical/mathematical understanding later.

Excellent lesson! People get tired of hearing just notes. David Gilmour didn’t play 32nd notes. Or even four measures of 16th triplets. But man can he pull your emotions along!

Thanks Dave... That part @6:50 about "being loose" is so cool! I read once in a magazine (yeah, yeah, that tells my age...lol) that Robert Fripp use to say : the good musician is NOT the one who can play 1000 notes in a bar... It's the one who can play 1000 note, BUT choses to play 3!"... It's not about the number of notes; it's about the importance you give to the ones you chose to tell YOUR story (that's not from Fripp, nor me... it's from Wallimann!)

You said something that hit me right between my guitar playing brain! If you haven’t done much studio time or are about to go into the studio for you’re first time, OR played on studio tracks and absolutely hated it, because I prefer playing live, however I recall laying a solo track down on a song early on in my career, I just threw in what I thought would be hot, kinda flashy (show off a bit) I’ll never forget the studio engineer say in my headset “Hey Greg, on the solo…think Clapton” I got what he meant and all was good. I think one of the best lessons in playing a solo or lead in intro is to introduce yourself! Just like you said. Play, if you will “Hi, my name is Greg”. Fit the song. On a slow kind of bluesy song you want a remembered hook (on guitar) that pops its head up in the mix just enough for the listener to almost pass by it but in reality it’s going to come back and be recognizable, and identifiable concerning you as an artist. Wow deep, but I thought that was an outstanding takeaway from this video. Hope this makes sense. I haven’t finished the entire video but really enjoying this! Thanks man

Love the drill @ 12:00, approaching notes from a half step bend. Also the example @ 3:25 was very useful for me to demonstrate the importance of using silence to develop motifs and hooks. Before I was able to slide around and move through patterns by ear, to crank out riffs like that seemed like a dream... Now that I'm playing riffs I'm working on learning to play less!

Thank You. i'm rewatching this daily, it's so good :) . i like this information even though it sounds simple i think its like the core of the guitar, expressing our feelings and emotions. i personally never learned any theory ever except the standard tuning e a d g b e, I have no clue of anything else. i just enjoy noodling on the guitar along the music. but recently I've been more interested in learning some theory. but one thing that boggles my mind, how much my mood affects my playing. like the days that im happy and in a good mood, i can play something randomly along a song. and then sometimes i try to play it the day after and even i can somewhat figure it out, i just never can get it to sound as good as the first random try. which most of the time happens to be like at low volume me recording at 1am when I can't sleep lol like this part here doesn't something anything super hard even now I still can't play the timing and intervals as good as the first time. it always somehow sounds off. any idea what the reason might be? Thank You so much kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKC8oXR6rttnbc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYu4lYyYq6hkmrc

Very very good David I appreciate the way that should teach even though I've been playing a lot of years I'm old I have learned from back traction you know I didn't really learn to scales I don't know how to read music. Play by ear and your explanation of how music is within us and this a gift and that we tell stories on his guitar I was really really encouraged by that my dad was a violin Cajun fiddle with my brother play with the benches for 20 years and I'm just sort of mess around but I enjoy it so much because I play what I feel it's a story that I tell for my innermost being thank you for explaining this in a simple way but yet with your heart and soul it really really translates me a lot and gives me a lot of information that I used to be able to increase my knowledge and my gift
