So far, recognizing them instinctively and paying attention to gut feelings quickly, and that means in seconds since that’s all they need to create havoc, works pretty well. Then you know not to try reasoning or truth, since they only care to disrupt and destroy. Just get away from them, without being disturbed by them, since that only supplies them with more of what they call “fun”. Once you’ve identified the threat, if possibly needed immediately call on staff if you are in a public place like a restaurant or tavern to get a guard or some company out to vehicle or transportation. Of course do not engage. The drink or whatever they offer to buy you is not worth it.

This is how dangerous narcissists are: It took me over 2 years to be able to bathe regularly and brush my teeth after leaving the narc. Get away from them and stay away from them if you value your sanity and your life. And then, beware the re-test, because if you don't heal and do your introspection, you'll keep attracting other ones. There are lots of them out there.

Me too I’m 63. I finally dumped my aging narcissistic parents too. Me is way too valuable for that BS... They have my too flying monkey sisters. One couldn’t and thank God, have children and the other had two and the youngest, scapegoat, took his own life at age 14. The same day that the older golden child, narc stole five bucks from him. The older narc went on a 12 year meth/crack spree. Ended up in jail. And they have the nerve, balls, golf, to tell me that they did way more for their kids, which was us, then I did for mine. Both my children are in their early 30s and have careers. They never been on drugs, never been judged, never drank, never smoked cigarettes. It took this long, 60 years and these videos and comparisons to realize how my narcissistic parents normalized that behavior.

All my married life (47 years) I've been struggling to make the narc into someone he is NOT. For the past couple years I've been gradually pulling away and two thoughts have been a real help to me. 1. He studies me to see my reactions to what he says and does because he loves keeping me on edge. SO, I'm reacting differently or not reacting at all and it's driving him nuts. I had not realized how much he is studying my reactions. 2. He counts on me never changing my emotional reaction. He counts on my Christian beliefs and sensibilities to know I like fairness and goodness. I can still be that way... but i try not to react and try to make him have those same beliefs. It's just not in him. That being said, it's very sad to think of him being that way. How, how can people be that way?

When I was a child it was very usual that parents throw a look at you with " cut it right now" eyes. The narcicist I live with, I'm working in gerting out of this, use this "eyes" strategy very often...so one we were with the carpenter snd I was asking few questions, that by the way were answered by the narcicist, you now ...they are experts in everything, so he was interrupting and gave me the LOOK...I couldn't resist and I told him in a very innocent way.." IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR EYES, WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME THAT WAY?. Ther carpenter turned arround to laugh, and the narcicist was shocked.....I laughted a lot as well TURNING TABLES this way.

great advice! I did all of these things to my narc father, including that I told him that he is no longer my father. That rejection made him lose his mind -- good moment for me. We removed his supply (our mom), took away his power (rejection of who is is) and moved on with my life. Our mom still struggles as she endured 58 years of abuse, and was brainwashed /gaslit, but no more. He's done. He's a piece of shit and I am so happy to be free of his abuse.

These psychological "mindscrewing" games to play with narcissists, can be draining. A person can only play these games for a short while until they get to the point and say, "I'm over it" But it's hard to walk away from a narcissist when you are married to one..... I wish I would've paid close attention to the red flags when we were dating, because there were definitely red flags that I ignored!!! I hate should've, would've, could've though....

How can we get this information out to Social Services, Police, anyone in authority? The narc in my family is my daughter, who made my granddaughters life a living hell!! My daughter and her psycho father, my ex, completely turned everyone against me when I had been the ONLY constant in that child's life!!! My granddaughter has now fought herself free, regardless, but now we worry about her 5 year old sister still living there!! The problem is that these people are SO UNBELIEVABLE, that no one believes what we tell them!!!

This advice is spot on! She nails it here. I’ve used all three of these tools to great success! And becoming their worst nightmare is okay because it’s the only way to fight them. Once you win, it’s over, and it’s time to move on. But the fight is vicious because that’s how nuts they are. Another thing to do is to educate yourself as much as possible about them. The more one understands about them, the better one can fight them. Ms. Zung is awesome. I also like Dr. Les Carter (Surviving Narcissism channel) and Dr. Ramani, here on KZbin. I’ve improved my life immensely with their help.

Rebecca Zung, you are becoming one of my favorite people addressing this topic; right up there with Dr. Ramani! I love your feisty spirit and can tell that you are a fighter. I've no doubt you're a helluva attorney! Thank goodness I don't LIVE with a narcissist! My husband is wonderful and our marriage is as close to bliss as is humanly possible. But I come from a family of narcissists and psychopaths. In my case, it's not a husband or a lover... it's my goddam "brother". Our father's attitude towards the two of us can be summed up in the nicknames he gave us: "Boy Wonder" and "Knot Head". Any surprise that "Boy Wonder" turned into a loathsome, bullying narcissist?! (tsk TSK) As an adult, I got the silent treatment from my narcissistic brother for years. When I had had enough of his abuse, and began refusing to attend family gatherings where he was included, guess who got vilified by our clueless parents! ME. More recently (2006) he and his lawyer re-wrote my mother's will behind my back, after she'd been stricken with Alzheimer's and become too senile to comprehend a legal document. That original will would have split her estate evenly between us, free of trust, for us each to utilize as we saw fit. Our mother was coerced into signing this piece of crap that put MY half of that estate into a trust, with my brother getting his half free of trust without strings or restrictions. He simultaneously positioned himself as both Trustee AND "heir" (I'm without children), making his two kids my "heirs" after HIM. Long story short, after twelve years of this nightmare, our case has finally gone to court. It's not finished yet, but it's looking like ole Douchebag is getting his smarmy ass whupped by me and my attorneys. LONG OVERDUE. People like this need to get brought down to size, the sooner the better. Without this inheritance, I would have to work until I die. After I’m done beating his ass in court, I will be “adopting” a lifelong friend, thus picking my own heirs so my brother and his family get NOTHING after I’m gone. In the meantime, I have much yet to accomplish through my retirement years. I am a pianist and composer, and an artist, with better things to do than engage in an endless power struggle and tug-of-war with that DOUCHEBAG.

What a fantastic vid! I really got my narcissist’s goat when after a lifetime of playing the victim and deflecting to control the situation to her advantage, I stood up to her. I told her that I wouldn’t under any circumstances fold, and when she realised I meant business, she temporarily backed down. I then learned everything I could about narcs and I started to say no when she tried to control situations. I was able to predict all her actions and plan accordingly. I knew she’d try and triangulate and my closest friends and family were forewarned about it. Now she haaates me, but she can’t express that hate.

Yes kids complicate it 1 million percent. Especially when the narc is controlling of finances, doesn't let u work but tell others you can(lies), doesn't let u have friends who could help u or family around, and got your car repo because he refused to pay for it since he controls the finances. I'm not selfish enough to walk away from my kids or take them with me with no where to go. Its maddening and so abusive.
